Meet Jacquie Garcia, one of the two artists behind UNDERSTOREY, opening at LEDA Gallery on Saturday 24 October, 5–7pm.

Working across painting and ceramics, Jacquie draws inspiration from dense bushland, rainforests and the shifting atmospheres of the natural world. Her works bring together the landscapes around her and the emotional world within, shaped by the rhythms, pressures and joys of daily life.

Through intuitive brushwork and expressive colour, Jacquie captures the sensations of being in nature: changing light, the scent of earth and the quiet presence of the bush.

Join us to discover her works alongside those of Alessia Sakoff in this beautiful celebration of the world beneath the canopy.

Gnarled trees, delicate ferns, fungi growing on fallen logs these are the details that turn a twenty-minute bushwalk with Jacquie and Alessia into an afternoon of looking, sketching and discovering.

Their shared fascination comes together in UNDERSTOREY, a celebration of the quiet forces of the natural world through painting and ceramics.

Beneath the bushland canopy lies a world easily overlooked, yet vital to the life above it. This exhibition invites us into that world, exploring its beauty and power, its stillness and movement, its delicacy and capacity to endure.

MEET THE ARTIST | ALESSIA SAKOFF

Alessia Sakoff’s landscapes explore the sublime, the unpredictable, uncontrollable forces of nature and the beauty found within them.

Inspired by frequent walks along Newcastle’s coastline and through regional NSW, Alessia sketches small moments of natural beauty, carrying these observations into her paintings.

Working with inks, oils and gouache, she blends abstraction with traditional techniques, drawing landscapes out of chaos. Quick, instinctive first layers give way to carefully considered detail, creating a compelling tension between spontaneity and control.

We’re delighted to present Alessia’s work alongside Jacquie Garcia in UNDERSTOREY at LEDA Gallery.

Playful, quietly ironic and rich in observation, Kimberly Swan’s paintings find unexpected significance in familiar objects, domestic spaces and ordinary scenes.
