The wait is over.

After 59 straight losses, the Jordan Red Jackets finally ended the second-longest losing streak in the history of Georgia High School Association football with a 35-20 victory over the Greenville Patriots on Friday night.

Jordan head football Chad Martin spoke with Ledger-Enquirer sports reporter Richard Holdridge about the win.

Ledger-Enquirer reporter Sundi Rose spent Saturday on the floor of the 6th Annual Fountain City Tattoo Expo in Columbus, Georgia.

“It’s exactly the chaotic, welcoming, slightly overwhelming energy you’d expect,” Sundi writes. “I definitely felt like the least cool person in the room, but I loved every minute of it."

Feeding the Valley announced Wednesday a $361,000 donation from Publix Charities, bringing Publix’s total donation to the Columbus-based food bank since 2016 to $1.26 million.

The donation will enable the food bank to purchase new equipment, including a steamer for the kitchen, a pallet jack and a forklift, Feeding the Valley CEO Frank Sheppard told the Ledger-Enquirer.

“It’s a tremendous donation and one that’s going to make a difference here at Feeding the Valley,” Sheppard said Thursday.

Woodward Academy defeated Northside High School 17-7 Thursday night at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus, Georgia.

Both schools entered the game with matching 3-1 records.

Woodward Academy goes to 4-1 for the season, and Northside drops to 3-2.

Northside's next game is Thursday, Oct. 1 against Morrow at Kinnett Stadium.

Since the Georgia Trust for Local News bought the Ledger-Enquirer two months ago, we have expanded our coverage of the Chattahoochee Valley. That growth includes hiring more reporters to better serve the Columbus area. In this second installment of our “Meet the L-E” series, we’re featuring Madeline Shapiro, who joined our team in June as an intern from Emory University. Jordan Vocational High School will honor retired boys basketball head coach Gerald Turner this coming season by naming its court after him.

The Muscogee County School District Board approved Jordan’s request during its meeting Monday night.

“It’s really a great honor,” Turner told the Ledger-Enquirer. “But what I like about it is I can look at that little kid that was me, that always looked up to those guys receiving awards, because they were big-time, and I like to let those little kids know that they can do the same thing.”
