So, after a couple of days on Kos I decided to book a boat trip to Nisyros. This was the second time visiting the island in the last few years and wanted to visit the 'live' volcano once again, and to wander and visit the fascinating and beautiful Panagia Spiliani monastery.
This, a shot up the steps to it.
**History**⬇️⬇️

Panagia Spiliani on Nisyros Location: Built upon a steep 30-meter-high volcanic rock at the Castle of Mandraki.
Discovery (c. 1400 AD): According to local tradition, a farmer repeatedly found a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary hidden in a rock crevice, which kept returning to the cave on its own after being moved to a town church. This prompted locals to transform the cave into a holy shrine.
Architecture & Art: Visitors climb 130 stone steps to reach the holy grotto, passing stunning traditional pebble mosaics. It features an ornate wooden altarpiece dating back to 1725 AD, and the main icon was adorned with a fine silver revetment in 1798.
Traditions: The monastery is the island's primary pilgrimage site, celebrating the Feast of the Assumption every August 15th, where local women (Enniameritisses) historically spend nine days fasting and praying inside the sanctuary.

After my last post a good few weeks back I decided to take myself off to Greece for a week, just to unwind, chill out and put things into perspective.
I also managed to get an extra couple of nights out there due to the NATS Air Traffic debacle 🤦‍♂️
