The Hoolock Gibbon (Hoolock hoolock), photographed by me in Kaziranga National Park, Assam, is one of the most fascinating primates inhabiting the forests of Northeast India.
The scientific name of the Western hoolock gibbon is Hoolock hoolock. Its close relative, the Eastern hoolock gibbon, is scientifically known as Hoolock leuconedys.
These remarkable apes typically live in small family groups, communicating through loud, melodious calls that echo through the forest. Their diet consists mainly of ripe fruits, supplemented by leaves, flowers and insects. Entirely adapted to an arboreal lifestyle, they spend most of their lives among the treetops, using their exceptionally long arms and powerful grasp to swing effortlessly from branch to branch.
Unlike monkeys, hoolock gibbons have no tails, making them distinctive members of the ape family.
Capturing these extraordinary creatures in their natural habitat was a reminder of the incredible biodiversity our forests shelter and the importance of preserving their home for generations to come.
You can see in the photos a family of Hoolock Gibbons, female hoolock gibbon (left) with her baby along with the male Hoolock Gibbon (right). Male gibbons are dark black feathered & females are mostly pale golden feathered .
They are very shy & sensitive , it's nearly difficult to focus them by the camera. Still i managed somehow.
