Meet @ronsparks1952 who is running for Alabama’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries.

Sparks has served in this role before, from 2003 to 2011. He has several priorities based on his previous experience as Ag Commissioner, including prosecuting animal abuse committed against pets and livestock, ensuring that all foods that come into Alabama are safe for families to eat, and eliminating the 1.5% sales tax on farm equipment.

On top of that, Sparks is adamant that consumers don’t get overcharged. “You pay for a gallon, you get a gallon of gas,” says Sparks. “That’s my promise to you. I do not tolerate consumer ripoffs.”

When he was commissioner before, he made it a requirement that every gasoline pump was inspected and certified for accuracy and safe operation, but the program was ended in 2015.

This means, he says, “that there are no elected officials looking out for your pocketbook and peace of mind at the pumps. ...Your elected officials in Alabama must do everything possible to ensure efficiency and accuracy so that you can go to your favorite gas station without having to worry that unscrupulous operators are giving you less than what you paid for.”

Sparks is also a veteran, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard Honor Guard.

Lee McInnis @leemcinnis26 says the Democratic Party is a big tent with lots of ideas, and the goal isn’t to agree with everyone on every issue. What he and other Democrats agree on — and what they plan to take on if elected — are healthcare, civil rights, the cost of living, and education.

Meet Wayne Rogers, who is running for Alabama Secretary of State.

@wayneforalabama wants voting to be easier for citizens in Alabama. He wants to protect access to the ballot, ensure election integrity, and promote transparent, trustworthy democratic processes.

Rogers, who grew up in Thomasville, Alabama, and graduated from Samford University and Cumberland School of Law, believes politicians should follow what his grandparents taught him: the Golden Rule, to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

“Alabama needs politicians who will go back to those values,” he says, “politicians who put people over party, who will remember what they were taught in Sunday School, who will do the right thing even if it might not line up with what the party bosses say.”

Rogers spent two decades in private practice, has worked as a federal prosecutor, and has held leadership roles in mental health advocacy and law enforcement training.

Meet Doug Jones, who is running for governor of Alabama.

@dougforalabama represented Alabama in the U.S. Senate from 2018 to 2021. He was the U.S. attorney for the northern district of Alabama from 1997 to 2001. He is well-known for his successful prosecution of two church bombers who killed four African-American girls, as well as for his indictment of domestic terrorist Eric Rudolph.

As governor, Jones has several priorities, but chief among them is his desire to regulate data centers and put a one-year moratorium on them until then. He says the following: “No tax breaks for data center companies, no secret deals, no nondisclosure agreements signed by politicians taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from data center companies. None of the corruption.”

Other priorities include growing job opportunities statewide, keeping rural hospitals open, investing revenue here in Alabama rather than sending it across state lines, and increasing the supply of affordable housing.

Another major concern he plans to tackle is accountability in Alabama’s government. Jones wants to create independent oversight of our prison system, a ban of elected officials from trading individual stocks while in office, and to promote citizen-led ballot initiatives and referendums. What this means, according to Jones, is “a government that answers to the people — not insiders — with real transparency and accountability.”

Meet Jeff McLaughlin, who is running for Alabama Attorney General.

McLaughlin has spent a decade fighting to get secret money out of politics. As attorney general, he says he’ll bring that same commitment to rooting out public corruption and holding the powerful accountable — regardless of party or connections.

McLaughlin is also heavily focused on public safety. He says he will “support the local police officers, sheriffs, and first responders who keep our communities safe — and go after the real threats to Alabama families, including the flood of fentanyl and dangerous drugs into our state.”

He adds, “Public safety means backing the people who do the work and focusing on results, not headlines.”

What do you say to someone who has voted Republican for years but is now ready to try something new?

“Welcome home. We’ve got work to do.”

That is @leemcinnis26 message. He adds:

“I try to think of everyone in this district as my neighbor, even the ones who aren’t going to vote for me.”

McInnis wants an America that isn’t full of division and insults. He thinks there is a better way.
