we interrupt this Saga Of Spingtime series to pay tribute to The Lizard aka ‘Smaug’. i’m not gonna pretend he was some sweet lil angel. by the time i moved in with him in allston in 2020, he was already a grown ass adult ass lizard & he was never even ONCE cuddly.
but he was always cute & bizarre & he has been truly the only one 100% by my side for the last six years & i’m really gonna miss his hateful side-eye, his pompous offense when i’d feed him his favorite foods or clean his cage.

i’ve never known how old he was, & i knew this day would one day come, shit i made jokes abt it constantly, he was so hilariously mean & evil.
but i’d be a big dumb liar if i said i was ready to say goodbye when i woke up yesterday & found that he’d taken a shit, crawled into his Spite Cave™️ & literally fucking died.
i didn’t see it coming & i REALLY didn’t expect it to hit this fuckin hard.

TLDR my evil lizard died hilariously abruptly & i’m waaaayyyyyy more fucked up abt it than i expected i would be

for almost 13 years, The Format has been one of my favorite bands & for most of those 13 years i fully believed i’d never get the chance to see them live.

like helll even six months ago, if you told me that by the end of March i’d get to see them live TWICE i’d likely have smited you down for tryna gaslite me like that.

what was the craziest cherry on top was somehow having the absolute privilege of personally telling @sammeans how big an influence he’s been to me as a songwriter and producer while he made me a couple pins for a future battle jacket,
as well as getting to anxiously sidle up to @nateruess, my literal biggest living influence as a singer & lay into him how bad it pissed me off as a 19 year old when i learned he didn’t have to take lessons to sing the way he does without hurting himself, & how fucked & awesome it is that he took a decade off & it was like he was cryofrozen & came back the same as ever.

& we’re not even gonna get into the fact that they opened with MY FAV SONG OF THEIRS

TL;DR saw my heroes, met my heroes, had a very good time.

i meant to spend a week in alaska just for christmas, to do as i always have, & see the sights, the family, the friends, the dogs, the family’s dogs, & of course the friends’s dogs.
howmstever… thanks to a pesky blizzard that dumped like at least 80 inches of snow over like 5 days, i wound up there for 1.5x the amount i was cleared for from work, i saw about 2/3 of the dear friends & family & dogs i intended to, & i wound up using the snowblower about 4x more than i ever had in my entire life up til now.

i never intended to be anywhere but boston when the bastard year of 2025 neared its demise, but i’ll take getting to see some talented semi-lifelong friends between @theraindogsak & @blackwaterrailroad play their fucking asses off as this wretched year took its last breaths over waiting at the airport to see if they could get enough ice off the plane to get it from AK to Seattle, to then Portland for some fucking reason, & then a lengthy voyage back to New England as the new year rang in.
So when you ask me “HOW WAS ALASKA IN THE WINTER” im simply gonna say what you’d expect which is “UNFORTUNATELY IT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HELLSCAPE ON PLANET EARFF, if you can wake up in time to see the sunlight!!” and also “IM LUCKY AS FUCK THAT MY MOM OWNS A BIG TRUCK” as well as “MY EVIL HOMETOWN HAS GROWN INTO A BEAUTIFUL AND COOL PLACE THAT IS SIMPLY BEHOLDEN TO INHOSPITABLE CHAOTIC METEOROLOGICAL BULLSHIT”
