You’ve climbed the corporate ladder, built a life around your income, and now you make too much to just walk away. At the same time, you’re too young to spend the next 10 or 15 years counting down to a retirement that still feels far away.

So you stay. You tell yourself the math makes sense, and maybe on paper it does. You have the salary, the bonus, the stock, the benefits, and a lifestyle that has been built around all of it.

Walking away without a plan would be irresponsible.
But I think there’s another kind of math we don’t talk about enough.

What is it costing you to stay in a career you’ve already outgrown? What does it cost to spend another year performing a version of yourself that doesn’t really feel like you anymore? What does it cost to keep waiting for some kind of permission to do something different when that permission may never come?

For a lot of high performers, it isn’t actually the money that keeps them stuck. It’s the fear of what life looks like without the money, the title, the company, and the identity they’ve spent years building around their career.

I don’t think you should blow up your life or walk away from a good salary with no plan. But I do think you should start building options before you become desperate for one.
If you’re in that place, I’m glad you found Left Filled.

Comment READY and I’ll send you a resource on how high performers are starting to build businesses and new paths of their own without blowing up the life they’ve already worked hard to build.

In economics, opportunity cost is what you give up when you choose one option over another.

Career decisions work the same way.

We spend a lot of time calculating the risk of leaving.

What if I make the wrong move?
What if I lose stability?
What if the next thing isn’t better?

But we rarely calculate the cost of staying in work we’ve already outgrown.

Another year underused.
Another year disconnected from yourself.
Another year building experience in a direction you don’t actually want to go.

Another year waiting for clarity instead of creating it.

At Left Filled, I don’t believe the answer is to blow up your career because you’re unhappy.

It’s to get curious about the data.

What is this job still giving you?

And what is staying here preventing you from building?

Because staying is a decision too.

And sometimes the most expensive career decision is the one you keep postponing

Long reel I know !!! But had to get it all out.

You can never govern something you’re not aware of. You can never have authority over any part of your life that you cannot name and that you do not understand.

James 516 it says confess your sin to another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of our righteous person is powerful and effective.

Choose growth in this season! So many of us are on the verge of the next thing that God is ushering us into. Understand the times and seasons so that you don’t miss out on what God has.

Be honest without making excuses

Ask for mutual support and strength to move forward

Pray together and encourage spiritual accountability so that you mature into the person God is calling you to be.

There’s this in between that we don’t really talk about in career transition on the surface. There’s nothing really wrong. You have a good job. You’re successful. There’s still room for growth. Maybe you’re even eyeing the next promotion but internally you have outgrown the work.

That was such a strange place for me when I transition from my career because it felt like I was living in two realities one version of me kept showing up working, performing being responsible and another part of me kept thinking I don’t think I’m supposed to be here anymore.

There is a fear we grapple with in leaving something I had given so much to but also there was a growing fear of staying like what if I keep doing this because it’s safe and never do the thing I actually feel called to do.

I think we miss about career transitions. They’re emotional before they’re tactical.

Sometimes you don’t need someone to tell you to quit your job you need someone who can help you make sense of what you’re feeling while you’re figuring out what’s actually next.

if this is you, I know exactly where you are. You might need someone to help you along the way sign up for a one oh1 consultation in the link above.

Same me. New commitment.

I’ve learned that sometimes commitment isn’t just about how badly you want it.

Sometimes you need somebody in the lane next to you.
In track, some runners are motivated by beating their own time. Others run faster because there’s somebody right beside them pushing the pace.

I think life works like that too.
Sometimes I can push myself.

And sometimes I need somebody who’s going to say, “one more.”
A little more.
A little deeper.
Don’t stop here.

That’s why I’ve been training with my sister @sim.ciara
The goal isn’t to become dependent on someone else to move.

It’s to know what helps you move and commit to that.

Maybe it’s your workout.
Maybe it’s building the business.
Maybe it’s finally making the career move you keep thinking about.

Find the thing — or the person — that makes you go a little further than you would alone.
Then commit.

So much about betting on yourself is your internal dialogue to yourself. Are you kind to yourself? Do you encourage yourself when you need courage. When you need encouragement do you know the words to say that speaks to the core of who you are, to pull yourself out of maybe a place of disappointment, a place of discouragement, or a place of fear and move you forward. Our internal dialogue is so important to how we view ourselves in the context of the world we live in

Speak kindness to yourself.

Speak love over yourself.

I had this thought in the gym today.
Sometimes getting to the gym is the goal.
But eventually, the goal becomes finishing the set.
And I realized I’ve been needing that reminder in my career too.
I have some big goals right now, and if I’m not careful, I can make the goal so big that I spend more time thinking about how far I have to go than actually moving.

I think we do this with our careers all the time.
We want to know the whole plan.
What’s the right job?
What’s the right business?
What happens if I leave?
Is this really the right move?

We keep waiting for clarity before we move.
But a lot of clarity actually comes from movement.
Send the email.

Have the conversation.
Apply.
Test the idea.
Make the ask.

You don’t have to solve your whole career today.
You just have to finish the set in front of you.
And I’m reminding myself of that too.
I’m not where I want to be yet.
But every time I follow through, I’m further from where I was.

I’ve been thinking a lot about #executivepresence lately.

We talk about it like there’s one universal way to look, sound and act like a leader.

There isn’t.

Sometimes what gets called “executive presence” is really about how well you fit the leadership culture that already exists.

And yes, part of growing in your career is learning how to read the room, communicate differently and adapt.

But I don’t believe the goal is to become a copy of the people who already have power.

The goal is to understand the environment you’re in, develop your own authority, and know the difference between **adapting and performing.**

That’s where coaching can be really powerful.

Because sometimes you don’t need someone telling you how to be more “executive.”

You need someone helping you figure out **how you lead best—and how to make that leadership work in the rooms you want to be in.**

If you’re navigating that next level of your career and could use someone in your corner, DM me LEAD.”

Who am I without something to prove?

I think a lot of people are sitting with some version of that question right now.

Every day it feels like there is another post about #layoffs. Another restructure. Another team being impacted. Another person trying to make sense of a career shift they did not choose.

And when you have lived through that, you know how disorienting it can be.

Losing a job is not just logistical.

It is not just updating your résumé, figuring out health insurance, reaching out to your network, and trying to stay calm while everyone tells you something better is coming.

It can really shake how you see yourself.

Especially if you have always been the hard worker.

The overperformer.
The one who figures it out.
The one who makes it work, even when it is costing you.

And then suddenly, for whatever reason, the work no longer chooses you back.

That is a very specific kind of grief.

Because even if you know, intellectually, that business decisions are business decisions, it can still feel deeply personal when so much of your identity has been built around being valuable in the room.

Being needed.
Being excellent.
Being useful.

And I think that is where a lot of us get stuck.

Some people are burned out but afraid to leave the job that is draining them.

Some people are realizing they were not even happy, they were just really good at performing inside a system that kept rewarding their exhaustion.

That is the part I care about.

Because your job was never supposed to become the evidence for or against your value.

What you do can reflect your gifts. It can reflect your discipline, your intelligence, your creativity, your capacity to build and contribute and lead.

But it was never supposed to define your inherent worth.

That is where Career by Design begins. separating who you are from what you do, so your next move is not just reactive.

It is honest.

It is aligned.

It is built from a deeper place than fear.

Your brain does not care if you are fulfilled.
It cares if you are familiar.

That is why trying something new can feel so threatening, even when you know you want more.

You might feel too old to pivot.
You might be afraid of letting your parents down.
You might not want to learn one more NEW thing.
You might believe the learning curve is too steep with how fast the world is changing (AI is here for good)
You might be deeply afraid of failing.
You might be in the thick of motherhood, with very little capacity to dream, build, or begin again.
You might have just lost your job, and the instability alone is wrecking your nervous system.

These are real fears 😱
But fear often makes assumptions 🤔

“I can’t do this.”
“It’s too late.”
“I’ll disappoint everyone.”
“I won’t figure it out.”
“It won’t work.”
“I’ll lose stability.”

So the work is not to force yourself to believe something new overnight.

The work is to give your body one small piece of evidence that SOMETHING NEW MIGHT BE POSSIBLE

Have one conversation.
Take one class.
Ask one question.
Make one tiny offer.
Update one part of your resume.
Research one financial number.
Share one honest thought.
Set one small boundary.
Your mind may not believe the new story yet.
That is okay.

Sometimes your mind has to catch up to what your body is practicing.

One small action teaches your nervous system:
“I can try something new and still be okay.”
That is how the unfamiliar starts to feel safer.
➡️Small action.
➡️New evidence.
➡️More self-trust.
🔂Repeat.
