I’ve been enjoying the more technical tricks and not focusing on the height. The height will be there eventually. I’d rather build my confidence and air awareness this way. I actually didn’t spot the water after the first full which threw everything off, but my awareness of my orientation and timing got me through it.

I kinda failed with the stationary drone shot, but I’ll try harder with the next one. It’s a learning process. Maybe when I have some more help, I can get someone to pilot the drone so I can stay locked in on my mental preparation.

McCloud Bday send 🏔️ 🎂 Please read

On social media, you usually don’t see the mental battles happening behind the scenes of these jumps.

For context, from 2017 to 2019, I had experienced 3 hard to explain episodes of what I can only describe as partial seizures. They weren’t bad, but they made me reevaluate what I was capable of. Any time I’m in a situation that requires uninterrupted focus, there’s always a voice in the back of my head reminding me that I could lose control of my mind as I did during those years.

When I got to Middle McCloud Falls, I noticed that the walk to the top was a lot sketchier than I expected it to be. It was probably an easy path for others, but because of my medical history, it was a big challenge. With it being my birthday and also a jump I had looked forward to all this time, I had put a lot of pressure on the outcome. It really started to seem like I was going to have to settle for a jump from a lower spot on the waterfall. I left to check out the Upper Falls to see if that was any better and to have more time to think, but I was discouraged there too because I was alone and did not have the right setup to stay safe.

When I returned to the Middle Falls, I was determined to at least try a couple more times to get to the top. After jumping the lower spot, I decided I would try again. Unfortunately, I fell and hurt my foot. It seemed like a sign that I shouldn’t jump at first, but then, it felt like a test. I was tired of making excuses to give up. I started a recording on my phone before heading to the top. Thats when a man saw me setting up my phone and offered to record me. To me, this was a sign and the motivation I needed to make it happen.

During my climb to the top, I noticed a new, less sketchy path to the takeoff that seemed to just appear to me. It was another sign that this was supposed to happen. I still had that claustrophobic feeling on the way to the takeoff, but was able to push past it. I made it to the top still fighting demons, but feeling a little safer being above deep water. I did my safety trick and all the fear left me in the air.
