Every sport has an expiration date.
You're stuck with your mind forever.

I'm Melisa 👊 Mental Performance Coach and founder of Legacy Mental Performance.
I built this because I kept watching talented athletes get in their own way, not because they weren't good enough, but because nobody ever trained the most important muscle they have.
Their mind.

And here's what nobody talks about... I'm seeing this start from as young as 10 years old already afraid to make mistakes. Beating themselves up.
It is NOT a phase you outgrow.
If not handled, when they head to the college level, it will travel with them!

Legacy teaches athletes to train their mind like they train their body.
Real tools.
Real systems.
Real accountability.
This is mental fitness... not mental health.

If that's your athlete, welcome!!
You're in the right place.

This is NOT for every athlete.
Legacy is for....
The perfectionist.
The overthinker.
The athlete who compares themselves to everyone and
The athlete who is afraid to make mistakes.

They are the one who knows they're capable of more but keeps getting in their own way.

You're already training your body every single day.
But your mind?
Nobody has ever taught you how to train it.
Until now!!!
Here's what you can expect to see change!
You stop holding back.
You stop second guessing.
You just play free.

That's not confidence. That's mental conditioning.
Weekly 1:1 coaching, proven systems, daily mental training, and real accountability.

If you know something outside of physical skill can make you better...

Pushing through won't fix what's happening in their head.
These athletes figured that out.

Here's what needed to change:
Stop spiraling after mistakes.
Stop playing tight when it matters most.
Stop letting one bad play define their whole game.

The result?
Start showing up with a system.
Start resetting faster than anyone
Start playing free.

That's the edge.
Not more reps.
Not more skills.
Not pushing through and hoping it gets better.
A trained mind.

Sport gives athletes SO much... the life lessons that go way beyond the game.
But imagine if they also had control of their mind at 13 instead of figuring it out at 23.
The athlete who trains their mind doesn't just perform better.
They live BIG.

In their sport.
In school.
In every area of their life.

This was never just about the game.
If you're a parent reading this and your athlete is grinding in every other area of their sport but unraveling in their head...DM me.

I'll show you how we fix it. 👇 by @legacymentalperformance

Only 11 teams have ever done what the Guardians just did.
When an MLB team is down 2-0 in a series, just one more loss and the season would be over.
That meant the Guardians had to win 3 straight elimination games.
In the entire history of the sport, only 11% of teams in that situation have come back to win it.
Cleveland just became the 11th.

That doesn't happen by accident.
Before any of it happened, their manager said it in the locker room: "Backs against the wall... no one counts us in."
José Ramírez, simpler: "We had a clear mindset, and we knew we could come back."

Belief alone doesn't win you the game.
You've got to take that skill,
that technique,
and actually execute it when the pressure's real.

Clearheaded. Fewer mistakes. Performance that holds, instead of falls apart.

That's not talent. That's training.

96% of college athletes deal with real performance pressure.
Almost none of them are trained to actually handle it.

Kara Lawson, the Duke head coach for Women's Basketball and now also leading Team USA toward the Olympics, built her entire coaching philosophy around three words: "Handle Hard Better."
Not avoid it.
Not wait for it to pass.
Handle it better.

Her teams are known for playing through long scoring droughts and bad stretches that would rattle most programs and not because they feel less pressure, but because they've actually trained for that discomfort instead of hoping to avoid it.

Most parents out SO much focus on training the physical side... more reps, more hours, more drills.
Almost nobody trains the part that actually decides how an athlete responds when the pressure is real.

That's not talent.
That's training.

5:37.
That's all it took to blow the best season in program history.

Michigan State's women's soccer team was ranked #1 in the country.
Undefeated.
Then they gave up 3 goals in a row in under 6 minutes.

Their own coach said it plainly: "self-inflicted, lack-of-discipline moments" cost them the game.

Most athletes think discipline is willpower or trying harder in the moment.
It's not.
It's a trained reset, built before the pressure ever hits.

Catching yourself before it spirals isn't talent.
That's training. 🧠

1 in 4 recruited athletes won't keep their spot.
Most parents assume it's talent.
It's not.

Deion Sanders just cut players from his own team, not for lack of talent, but character.
Performance is habits, standards, identity.

In 10 weeks, the recruiting window closes.

And most parents and athletes still think it comes down to talent.
Here's the thing... talent gets you noticed.
It doesn't keep you there!

This week, a Division One head coach, Mike Norvell, showed exactly what matters.
Not a stat line.
Not a highlight reel.
How he held up when everything outside his control was falling apart.

That's the part nobody's training for.
And it's the part that decides who gets picked when the roster only has one spot left.

If your athlete is only working on skill, they're already behind on the thing that actually separates who gets recruited and who doesn't.

Comment GPS and I'll send you the exact playbook for building it. ⬇️ by @legacymentalperformance

The transfer portal is changing what it actually means to make a team,
and parents and players are still trying to figure out how it works!

Making the team used to be the finish line.
Now it's the starting line.

Recruiting no longer has one door: the days of getting seen, getting offers, and getting in is no longer that simple.
The transfer portal blew that model up with both positive and sometimes negative aftermaths.
Coaches aren't just filling empty roster spots anymore, they're sometimes actively shopping for someone better than who they've already got.

The model of developing the guys already in the program is not how most of the sports world works anymore.

Here's what that actually means for your athlete: making the team won't be the hard part.
Staying on it, season after season, while someone new is always one portal entry away... that's the part nobody prepares them for.

You can't control who a coach goes looking for.
You can control whether your athlete's hard to replace.

Oregon beat Oklahoma State by 66 points last year.
This past weekend, Oklahoma State beat Oregon as aa massive underdogs. 🏈

New coach.
Almost an entirely new roster.
Not one outside voice gave them a fighting chance.

Head coach Eric Morris, after the win said:
"Everybody counted them out, told 'em how bad they were. Proud of those kids."

Nobody predicted this on paper.
That's the point!! Belief isn't something you can rank or measure ahead of time.
It only shows up when the pressure's actually on.

Same is true for your athlete.
Their ranking, their roster spot, last season's stats... none of it predicts what they'll do when they get tested.
That part gets built... or it doesn't.

Boise State led the No. 2 team in the country by 10 points.
They still lost by 7.

After the game, head coach Spencer Danielson said it plainly: "Who is going to play harder for longer?"

That's not a pep talk... it's the real separator.

Your athlete can be ahead right now: in practice, in stats, in the recruiting rankings.
That doesn't tell you what happens the moment things stop going their way.

Parents watch the scoreboard. Coaches watch what happens when the game turns on them.
And most sports coaches don't have time to coach effort.

D1 rosters just got smaller, and almost no parent chasing a scholarship knows it yet.

Football rosters used to run well past +120 players with walk-ons.
As of this year, they're capped at 105, TOTAL, no exceptions.
Every other D1 sport got the same kind of cap.
Fewer spots.
Same number of kids chasing them.

Coaches used to have room to take a chance on a talented kid and let him develop.
That room is gone.
When two athletes have similar talent and there's only 1 spot left, the deciding factor isn't talent, because they're both talented. It's who a coach can trust to be consistent when it matters.

The margin for error just disappeared.
Mental preparation isn't a nice extra anymore.
It's what separates two equally talented kids competing for the same shrinking spot.
