@lauderdalelakesfl We are asking for a policy- person-neutral, so it outlasts this case and serves as a precautionary tool:

“No elected or appointed official of the City of Lauderdale Lakes who is the subject of an active law enforcement investigation involving alleged harm to a minor shall attend, host, sponsor, or appear at any city-sponsored event, program, or facility where children are the intended participants, in their official capacity, until that investigation is closed or resolved.”

This is a precautionary public-safety measure- not a finding of guilt, an admission, or a disciplinary action.

The ordinance would be temporary in design and triggered by the investigation, not by any judgment, supposed “smear campaign”, or rumor about a person. It lifts automatically, and it costs this city nothing. We already do this to everyone else…Nobody calls that punishment- it is precautionary.

I believe it’s important we show our youth, especially, that there isn’t any form of silence that protects the children of this city.

Lord, have mercy on us.✝️

I KNOW YALL TIED OF HEARIN ABOUT VOTING, BUT ELECTION DAY IS TUESDAY (TOMORROW)— THE COMMUNITY SHOWIN’ UP… YOU SITTIN THIS ONE OUT? by @legallyborikua

For The People. Ready for The People’s Senator @angieforfl / @theangienixon to show them what Flawda legislators are made of.

Did you know I served as a District & Legislative Aide in District 94 (now HD-99) in the Florida House of Representatives from 2022-2023 while OUR FUTURE SENATOR (Representative Angie Nixon) served?

I’d been working in the capitol supporting the office during a crazy legislative session….The first time I introduced myself to Rep Nixon, she’d been put in a legislative office with rats! I went up to her (a little nervous) and introduced myself and offered my office space in case she needed somewhere to work. She thanked me and said she was used to it and it was nothing new… In so many ways, Rep Nixon has both earned my respect and inspired me to pursue a future in The Legislature…

For legal reasons, I can’t say much more than that, but just know— ANGIE NIXON IS THE REAL DEAL!!!!!

Disappointment is an understatement… @lauderdalelakesfl

The City of Lauderdale Lakes City
Attorney's memorandum published/transmitted to city commission @lauderdalelakesfl on October 20th concludes that, under Florida law, an incumbent official whose term expires without any candidate qualifying to run against them does not create a "vacancy."

Instead, the official automatically "holds over" in office “by law” until the next regular election cycle for that specific seat, which in this case is November 2030.

We deserve additional legal counsel regarding the City Attorney’s opinion in the October 20th legal memorandum.

6. The only "involuntary)" means of ending a sitting commissioner's tenure are for-cause forfeiture, elector recall, and a narrow gubernatorial suspension - none of which the Commission may invoke at will. Three mechanisms, each tightly cabined, can separate a municipal officer who will not voluntarily resign.

First, forfeiture: the Charter lists the exclusive grounds - loss of qualifications, violation of the standards of conduct or code of ethics, conviction of a crime involving moral turpitude, three consecutive unexcused absences, incapacity exceeding three months, or moving one's principal residence out of the city - "such forfeiture to be declared by the remaining members of the city commission"

(CITY CHARTER Section 3.10 - Vacancies; forfeiture of office; filling of vacancies at 1. A [commission] member charged with conduct constituting grounds for forfeiture "shall be entitled to a public hearing on demand" (CODE OF ORDINANCES City of LAUDERDALE LAKES, FLORIDA at 155). As such, forfeiture is a for-cause determination, not removal at will. A Florida officer may "be removed only for cause and after notice and an opportunity to be heard" (Burklin v. Willis, 97 So. 2d 129, 131 (Fla. Dist. Ct. App. 1957)), a governing body "acted beyond the scope of its lawful authority in summarily resolving to vacate" an office without that process……) by @legallyborikua

Lauderdale Lakes, we have a massive representative crisis on our hands!

Watch the 15 min record of independent community stakeholders directly confronting the Lauderdale Lakes City
Commission regarding Seat 1.

The City Attorney's newly released
October 20 legal memorandum reveals an alarming administrative loophole: because the candidate qualifying period closed with no opponent qualifying, the current incumbent is legally authorized to
"hold over" and retain his seat until November 2030—nearly four full years without an election.

While those of us who stepped up to the microphone-Athena Guice, Former Representative Anika Omphroy**, Former Commissioner Beverly Williams, Dr. Nethel Stephens, and resident Joshua-did not go up as a formally established coalition, we spoke with one unified voice as independent stakeholders who refuse to let a technicality override the safety, welfare, and explicit trust of Lauderdale Lakes families.

Our individual statements exposed profound electoral and structural concerns for our community:

•Disenfranchisement of Voters: A seat that was regularly scheduled to be on the ballot is being completely bypassed.
Residents are being entirely stripped of their democratic right to vote for their Seat 1 representative.

•Zero Accountability: By exploiting the holdover doctrine, a politician retains full public authority, votes on city budgets, and shapes municipal policy despite failing to properly navigate the ballot qualification process.

•Our Next Step: Moving from Statements to Strategy Following last night's meeting, we are actively planning to coordinate, organize, and build a formal structure around these concerns.

We are strategizing to officially launch a dedicated community campaign to address both this electoral crisis and the public safety silence.

⚔️A Formal Campaign for Immediate Resignation: We are organizing a committee to call for a formal resignation effective immediately on the explicit grounds of misfeasance—because utilizing the prestige and access of a public office around youth spaces while named as a suspect in an open child-harm investigation is a gross violation of a leader's standard of care. by @legallyborikua

Lauderdale Lakes: It’s time to close the loophole and protect our children!!! I am calling all of my community out STATEWIDE!!!

I’ve been politically correct in addressing @lauderdalelakesfl thus far even as I’ve lost trust in this body’s ability to govern. I am now calling on all statewide stakeholders to join us.

On October 27th, community stakeholders stood before the Lauderdale Lakes City Commission to break the silence. While a newly released City Attorney legal memo dated October 20, exposes an administrative loophole allowing an unqualified incumbent to hold onto Commission Seat 1 until November 2030, we are drawing a clear line in the sand.

A criminal court determines legal guilt, but WE—the community—determine public trust.
I am stepping forward to lead a dual-pronged community campaign to bring safety and accountability back to our city:

1️⃣ THE RESIGNATION CAMPAIGN: We are forming a formal community committee to demand the immediate resignation of Commissioner Easton Harrison on the explicit grounds of misfeasance. Holding public authority and appearing at youth-facing city events while actively named as a suspect in an open child-harm investigation is a gross violation of the public trust.

2️⃣ THE PRECAUTIONARY SAFETY ORDINANCE: For the third time, I am demanding that the Commission vote on a person-neutral public safety policy. If an official is under active investigation for harm to a minor, they must step back from official youth events until the case is resolved. It’s a temporary, common-sense safeguard.

📢 A CALL TO ACTION FOR ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS: This isn’t just a Lauderdale Lakes issue. I am calling on leaders across Broward County and the entire State of Florida to state publicly, by name, where they stand & to leverage their power to call for electoral legal opinions! Silence is a choice.

The adults with the information have a mandatory obligation to act before harm occurs—not after.

➡️ HOW TO JOIN THE LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE: We need residents, parents, and voters to help us organize. Comment “STAND” below or DM me directly to join the committee, sign the formal demand we will draft, and protect our city’s youth. by @legallyborikua
