The TV Casualties at one of the final live gigs at Legends, Edinburgh.

With the announcement of Legends (aka Opium) closing its doors permanently on Monday after 35 years, the question remains of what this means for Edinburgh’s alternative rock music scene. Grassroots venues seem to be closing left right and centre, which isn’t just an Edinburgh issue, but a UK-wide one.

Legends is one of the city’s only remaining independent metal/punk/hardcore/alternative music venues left, so the closure will have a massive impact on the scene - especially for the bands who have played there, the gig-goers, and photographers like myself, who started out shooting at small alt venues like this, including Legends.

So what is the future of Edinburgh’s music scene? Who knows, but what we do know is that we need to continue supporting these local independent pubs and venues.

Thank you @legendsedinburgh for many great nights out and gigs over the years, the closure will be a massive loss to Edinburgh’s music scene and nightlife.

Since legends have one more weekend than they thought they did we’re doing a free show this Sunday. We have a few bands just locking in but free up your Sunday after your roast dinner and come down to see us say a farewell to our home. by @legendsedinburgh

A big thank you to everyone who came down to see us @acid.reflux.band.official @robot_death_monkey @stateofdeceit on Saturday. Your support blew us away. We are so grateful we were able to play our EP launch as our last gig at Legends. The energy was unreal. It was the craziest gig we have ever played!

Legends was the first venue we played when we started the band two years ago. We’ve had so many good times playing here and supporting our friends. To have headlined is a dream come true. Thank you so much for making that possible.

Legends is where we have made so many friends. It’s been more than a venue to so many of us. It was a place to belong and be apart of something. Legends has been a staple venue in the Edinburgh scene and it will remain in our memories as such.
Thank you to the legends staff for making Saturday night possible and for always making us feel so welcome here and making it an incredible venue to play.

Although we are losing one of our most loved venues. The Edinburgh metal scene will never die. It is now more important than ever to keep going to shows and supporting local bands in whatever way you can.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who came down on Saturday and gave it there all one last time.

Legends forever and long live the Scottish Metal Scene!
