Much thanks to Zachary Keating and Chris Joy of Gorky’s Granddaughters http://www.gorkysgranddaughter.com for their studio visit, and video. They asked great questions and prompted me to pull out lots of history. Thanks also to my good friend Riad Miah for suggesting this visit . It is an honor to be part of their archive #artistsoninstagram #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting taken in Soho, N.Y.C by @leighbehnke

Leigh Behnke (b. 1946, Conneticut, USA) is an American artist based in New York City.

Behnke’s oil paintings blend historical elements with contemporary settings. Digital collaging and various oil painting techniques are employed in an exploration of the fluidity of time and memory. The depiction of artifacts and ghostly figures in empty, yet contemporary, landscapes invites contemplation on the relationship between the past and present. Behnke’s mastery in color and figurative painting enhances the surreal, almost cinematic quality of her compositions.

Leigh Behnke: Time Travelers and Triptychs is now on view at Long Story Short NYC.

52 Henry Street, New York, 10002.
Wednesday to Sunday, 12-6pm.
