🌟COVER REVEAL🌟This story had been brewing inside of me for years before it poured out through my fingers. Writing this story was a joy, and seeing it come to life through @afsane.sanei’s exquisite art was magic. I never imagined I’d have a picture book with the word YALLA on the cover, and seeing it now is a dream come true! Evey book for children that represents peoples and cultures that have long been pushed to the margins, their stories either hidden or told through the lens of the “dominant culture” using offensive stereotypes, is a step in the right direction. We need more of this. We need literature that will create a generation of people who respect one another and understand that nothing will ever be okay unless everyone, everyone, is treated with dignity.A million thanks to @simonkids for publishing our book, to Dainese Santos for being a wonderful human and editor, and last but not least, my superstar agent @wonderlilly, who is one of the most supportive, big hearted, and courageous people I have ever met. This Zine was not planned.It grew inside me.Planted Genocide in My Mind is a collection of memories, glimpses and fragments shaped by living through two years of genocide in Gaza and its aftermath. I write from the middle of a Genocide where survival itself became uncertain and memory became heavy.The genocide did not only destroy places and people; it planted itself inside us, altering how we age, think, feel, fear, dream and imagine the future. These pages reflect that inner landscape. They are showing many aspects living under the same conditions.You will find fragments rather than conclusions, questions rather than answers. Some pages may feel unfinished, because life here is unfinished. Some memories repeat, because trauma does. Some hope appears quietly, because hope in Gaza has learned to whisper.I write because memory is a form of survival. I write to plant humanity in people's heart.
