it was sexi and one of my favorites.

we made it while living for months outside guangzhou during monsoon season. the factory was also a boarding house for the seamstresses and their families. when it rained there were frogs in the bathroom.

the town didn’t even have a name yet. it felt like pictures of america in the 1930s - industrial dirt roads. wedding portrait studios with people smoking cigarettes on scooters outside. political campaigns rolling through town on flatbed trucks.

back in new york it was pornhub. hustler. a doll we never got to finish (barbie). it might still be the only fashion show on youtube with an age restriction

egypt was my first muse. but actually. through her my imagination turned on and not just about her, but about what was even possible. she trusted me just enough to let me witness the big life stuff < her kids, her home, her relationships, the pageantry, the deaths in her family. almost none of that is in SHAKEDOWN. and somehow all of it is. there were plenty of days she didn't want the camera around. she'd get annoyed with me, and i understood. i do that too. it takes something to be watched. but i kept coming back. i was pretty consistent. pretty devoted. she also taught me how to be around an iconic woman. lightly. this clip she getting her hair done at home and i wanted to make one simple scene about someone constantly remaking the idea of themselves through performance. @goddessegyptblaqueknyle by @leilahworld
