POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hi, I’m Lei Lou!

I’m a 36-year-old single Mum creating art, and learning to focus on my health and healing on a budget.

I live with breast cancer, endometriosis/adenomyosis, ADHD, autism & CPTSD — while raising my two incredible neurodivergent kids (my 9-year-old and my 14-year-old trans son) 🏳️‍⚧️

This space is where healing meets honesty.

Where natural living, emotional expression, and imperfect growth come together.

I share the real things —
the soft days, the hard days, and the moments we laugh anyway.

Here you’ll find:

• Gentle, grounded advice
• Emotional art + self-expression
• Mental health & healing journeys
• Single Mum life (the real version)
• Natural living + conscious choices
• Growth, without perfection
• And always… a little humour to get us through.

If you’re here, you’re not alone.

Welcome to Lei Lou Healing.
Held in love, always.

Healing in waves…

Some days, healing feels like progress. You wake up feeling lighter, find joy in the little things, and begin to recognise pieces of yourself you thought you’d lost.

Other days, the waves come crashing in. Old wounds resurface, emotions feel heavier, and things you thought you’d made peace with suddenly hurt all over again.

But healing was never meant to be a straight line. It doesn’t happen all at once, and it certainly doesn’t happen on a schedule.

Sometimes healing looks like growth. Sometimes it looks like resting. Sometimes it’s crying, starting over, setting boundaries, or simply making it through the day.

And sometimes, it’s learning to let the waves come without believing you’re drowning.

You can be healing and still hurt. You can be grateful for how far you’ve come and still grieve what you’ve been through. You can have beautiful days and difficult ones without losing the progress you’ve made.

You are not back at the beginning just because you’re having a hard day.

Like the ocean, we move in cycles. We ebb and flow. We have seasons of calm and moments of chaos. And even when it feels like we’re being pulled under, we can learn to find our breath again.

So, be gentle with yourself. You don’t have to be strong every day. You don’t have to turn every painful experience into a lesson. You don’t have to rush your recovery to make other people comfortable.

Take it one wave at a time.

You are allowed to rest between the storms. You are allowed to change. You are allowed to become someone new while still loving the person you used to be.

Healing isn’t about never hurting again. It’s about learning how to hold yourself through the hurt, finding your way back to yourself, and remembering that even the biggest waves eventually soften.

Keep going, gently. You’re allowed to heal in waves. 🌊

Please help my beautiful friend Jen who is fighting cervical cancer 🥹🦋

Cancer is hard enough to face without the added stress of worrying about finances, work and everyday living expenses. Jen has spent so much of her life working hard and putting her four children first, and now she deserves the opportunity to focus on her health and recovery without carrying the entire financial burden herself. 🥹🩷

Her family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover treatment costs, medications and living expenses while she navigates this incredibly challenging time.

I know how much a cancer diagnosis can turn your world upside down. The physical and emotional toll is enormous, and the uncertainty of what comes next can be overwhelming. Having support around you can make such a difference.

If you’re able to contribute, no amount is too small. And if donating isn’t possible right now, sharing this post could help Jen’s story reach someone who is able to help.

Let’s remind Jen and her family that they don’t have to face this alone. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can make a difficult journey a little less heavy. 😔🩷

Please consider donating or sharing their fundraiser. Every bit of support means so much.

Sending so much love to Jen and her family. 🩷💛🩵

I haven’t had an easy life. And through everything I’ve experienced — childhood abuse, domestic violence, raising children with additional needs, chronic illness, mental health struggles, and cancer — there’s one thing I’ve learned: you just have to keep living.

Keep finding little moments of happiness in the middle of the chaos. Keep noticing the beauty in ordinary things. Keep getting back up when life knocks you down, even if getting back up looks a little different each time.

Some days, being strong means fighting. Other days, it means resting, crying, asking for help, or simply making it through the day.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t have to be positive every moment. You don’t even have to know how you’re going to get through what’s in front of you.

Sometimes, you just have to take life one day, one moment, one breath at a time.

You just have to keep living. Keep finding reasons to smile. Keep making room for joy, even when life is hard. Because even after everything you’ve been through, there is still beauty to be found, love to be felt, and life left to live.

This is what healing looked like for me today. 💛

And by “resting,” I mean lying in bed dealing with hot flushes from menopause, cramps from endometriosis, and acid reflux and nausea that could be from the pancakes I ate earlier… or the medications I’m taking. 😂🥞

People often talk about how hard life can be after cancer, and I’m beginning to understand that it doesn’t simply end when treatment does. There’s still recovery, side effects, and so much to navigate physically, mentally and emotionally.

Because of the type of cancer I had, I’ve also been put into menopause, all while continuing to live with endometriosis. So, needless to say, this next chapter is going to be an interesting journey. 🥴

I know there will be hard days, unexpected challenges, and moments when I feel completely exhausted. But I’ve already made it through so much, and I’m not giving up on myself or my future anytime soon.

I’m learning that surviving cancer is one thing, but learning to live, heal and eventually thrive afterwards is another journey entirely.

And maybe healing doesn’t always look like being productive, feeling positive or doing something amazing. Maybe sometimes it looks like staying in bed, listening to your body, laughing at the absurdity of it all, and giving yourself permission to do absolutely nothing.

I’m still here. I’m still healing. And I’m still finding my way, one day at a time. 🌻💛

You’re still exhausted. You’re still dealing with pain, side effects, appointments and the emotional aftermath. You might not even feel like yourself yet — but somehow, you’re expected to start putting your life back together.

And when you’re a parent, there’s another layer to it.

You’re trying to get your kids back into a routine. Get them eating better. Reduce the screens. Get everyone sleeping properly. Help them process everything that’s happened. And at the same time, you’re trying to do all of those things for yourself.

Because for months — you weren’t focused on thriving.

You were focused on surviving.

Surviving the diagnosis.
Surviving treatment.
Surviving the exhaustion.
Getting through one day at a time.

And then suddenly, you’ve been told the treatment worked. The treatment might not end, but everyone expects you to just… get back to normal.

But there is no “normal” to go back to.

You have to build something new while you’re still healing.

So if you’re in that strange space after cancer where you’re grateful to be here but completely overwhelmed by everything you’re supposed to do next — please know you’re not failing.

You’re rebuilding.

And rebuilding takes time.

Dogs can be some of our greatest teachers.

They find joy in the simplest things.

A walk around the neighbourhood.
A cuddle with their companion.
Stopping to smell the flowers.
A sunny spot on the floor.
A little treat.
Feeling the wind with their head out the car window.

They don’t spend their days worrying about yesterday or stressing about tomorrow.

They live in the moment.

They find something to be excited about in the ordinary. They remind us to slow down, notice the little things, and enjoy the day we’re actually living.

Maybe we could all learn a little more from dogs.

Find the joy.
Be present.
Love deeply.
And don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.

Starting over doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

Sometimes starting over is the bravest thing you can do.

You might have to leave a relationship.
Move to a new place.
Start again financially.
Change your career.
Rebuild your friendships.
Go back to therapy.
Learn who you are after years of simply surviving.

And sometimes, starting over isn’t something you chose. Life just changed around you, and suddenly you’re standing in a place you never expected to be.

It can be terrifying.

You might look around and think, “How am I supposed to rebuild my whole life?”

But you don’t have to rebuild it all today.

Start with one small thing.

Make your bed.
Take a shower.
Unpack one box.
Send the email.
Drink some water.
Go outside.
Apply for the thing.
Have the conversation.
Rest when you need to.

Small steps still count.

And please don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. You don’t know what it took for them to get there, and they don’t know what you’ve survived to get here.

You are allowed to grieve the life you thought you’d have and be excited about the life you’re creating.

You are allowed to be scared and still move forward.

You are allowed to change your mind.

You are allowed to outgrow people, places, habits and versions of yourself that once felt like home.

Starting over isn’t going backwards.

Sometimes it’s the first time you’re finally moving towards yourself. 🥹🫶

If you’re starting over right now, I hope you remember this:

You don’t need to have the whole path figured out. You just need to take the next step.

One day at a time.
One choice at a time.
One tiny beginning at a time.

And eventually, you’ll look around and realise…

I built a life I actually want to live. 😍
