Sad news today of the passing of Yayoi Kusama, aged 97.

I photographed this extraordinary work as part of the Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame x Yayoi Kusama presentation at Solaire Culture in London.

An artist whose unmistakable visual language — dots, repetition, colour and infinity — became part of our collective imagination.

What an extraordinary life, and what an extraordinary legacy.

Near to the Wild Heart
27.06—01.08.26

A detail from Near to the Wild Heart at @approachgallery

Pictured is a sculpture by @borbaa Anderson Borba, whose work has long been one of my favourites. Drawing on Afro-Brazilian traditions and transforming wood through burning, carving and painting, Borba creates powerful, tactile forms that exist between abstraction and figuration.

It was a pleasure to document his works for this exhibition.

One of my favourite assignments in recent months.

Photographing Fathi Hassan’s exhibition at the Paul Mellon Centre was a rare opportunity to work with complete creative freedom, allowing me to explore not only the artworks themselves but also their relationship with the building and its remarkable spaces.

Designed by Thomas Leverton and completed in the late 18th century, the Paul Mellon Centre is a wonderful example of how historic architecture can coexist with contemporary design. It’s something Britain does exceptionally well—preserving heritage while allowing it to evolve.

The exhibition presents works created by Fathi Hassan during his 2024 residency with The Sunderland Collection. Inspired by its extraordinary collection of rare atlases, celestial maps and globes, the resulting mixed-media works explore history, memory, displacement, cartography and colonialism through richly layered compositions.

A thoughtful collaboration between the Paul Mellon Centre, The Sunderland Collection and Fathi Hassan, and an absolute pleasure to document.

Documenting Eileen Agar at Alison Jacques — a joy to photograph an exhibition full of texture, rhythm, colour and surreal energy.

Agar was a key figure in British Surrealism, transforming everyday forms from nature — shells, rocks, birds, flowers, hands and faces — into dreamlike compositions between abstraction and imagination. This exhibition brings together paintings and collages from 1957–1985, showing how her visual language kept evolving well into her eighties.

On view at @alisonjacquesgallery, 5 June – 25 July.

Now open at Approach Gallery: ‘Baby Blue Benzo’ by Sara Cwynar.

A monumental panoramic video installation, shot on digital and 16mm film, unfolds as a continuous horizontal scroll. Beginning with the Mercedes-Benz 300SLR, the work expands into a reflection on value, desire, and the role of images in capitalism.

Accompanied by photographs in the annex, set against wallpaper designed by the artist.

On view until 7 June.

I have documented Ian Kiaer’s work at his Oxford artist studio last week. This installation is being included in RETHINKING ROMANTICISM, at CAMeC @camec.laspezia – Centro d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, La Spezia, Italy, on view 11 April – 13 September 2026.

The exhibition reflects on the spiritual and visual legacy of Friedrich, Constable and Turner, and the ways their presence continues to resonate in contemporary practice.

Spent time documenting this beautiful exhibition @vardaxoglou gallery today and felt so struck by how thoughtfully it has been put together. There’s such a quiet balance to the installation. Can’t wait to share more images with you soon.

Gordon Parks once said the camera was his “weapon of choice” — and you feel that force in every room of this extraordinary show at @alisonjacquesgallery

Curated by Bryan Stevenson of @eji_org and @legacysites , ‘Gordon Parks: We Shall Not Be Moved’ brings together era-defining images that move between injustice and resistance, violence and dignity: segregated Alabama, American Gothic, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., the March on Washington. Parks didn’t just witness history — he gave it form, intimacy and moral clarity.

A timely, devastating and deeply elegant exhibition.
Beautifully framed in The Guardian by Oliver Laughland.
