Swipe through for some ā€œbefore and aftersā€ from a very special client’s bathroom remodel. She was ready to open up the space, but her tub, which she named Big Bertha, had to go. We swapped the tub and shower location and created a bigger shower that feels private but is still open. She wanted to incorporate blue and gravitated towards a coastal feel. Her one-of-a-kind lighthouse art piece feels right at home here. #bathroomremodelnewburypark #bathroomremodelthousandoaks

My client called this tub, Big Bertha. She wore out her welcome. Say goodbye to Bertha! We need the space.

The dark Mediterranean tile had its day. My client fell fell in love with the blue and white tile., and it gave the wet areas a bit of energy and movement (that hopefully inspires her morning routine).

The old shower felt a bit like a cave.

This builder-grade vanity and mirror setup lacked character. Storage could be better.

Adiós, vanity and mirror!

Aaah…that’s more like it. Storage, her makeup vanity, and two mirrors my client picked up. Now, it meets her needs and has some character!

This might be my favorite part. I planned this shaving bench and storage nooks with some extra countertop material. I wanted to partially enclose this area of the shower to create more privacy since the vanity is behind that wall. I think it worked out beautifully. We saved money by adding a standard glass shower door and windows above the pony walls to enclose the shower.

The flow is better with this new layout, there's a ton of storage, and it’s brighter with more energy. by @lemonadehomes

I have these naked branch wreaths that I dress up every year. Every year I assemble a new wreath with silk flowers, branches of berries and fall leaves, and I’m generally pleased with it until I get it out the next year. I usually dislike what I pull out from the storage bin and wonder what the heck was I thinking when I made that! Yep. It happened again, so I suppose I’ll enjoy this little sunflower wreath until Christmas takes over the front door. #diyfallwreath #diyfalldecor by @lemonadehomes

This bedroom/office makeover into a playroom is ready for the kids! We incorporated all the client’s artwork. The sofa comes in about 8 different cushions for movie watching or rearranging into some killer forts. The rug remains open for all kinds of creative endeavors.#homemakeover #playroomorganization #kidsbunkroom by @lemonadehomes

This large bedroom housed the grand children when they were visiting and doubled as an office and library. Now, it’s a dedicated playroom for all the kiddos. Each gets his own bunk now, there’s a play table, game storage, a television for movie nights, and an open floor for play. That little sofa under those gorgeous mountains, comes in pieces, so it can transform into cool forts! It’s clean now, but let playtime begin! #homemakeover #playroomorganization

Who’s ready for some ā€œBefore and Afterā€
photos? This was a whole house remodel in Thousand Oaks for one of my favorite couples. ā™„ļø They have great taste in furniture and art, they love their selections, but they felt their home needed a refresh.

We painted the whole house inside and out and replaced carpet with hardwood floors. Wallpapered was added in two bathrooms and the family room. We reupholstered couches and dining chairs. They chose to buy new beds, a sectional, accent pieces, bedding, area rugs, window treatments, and lots of new pillows. Oh, and we swapped out fake plants for the real thing. It was so much fun!

In the end, it still felt like the home they’ve loved for so many years, just a little lighter, brighter, and more purposeful. I’m grateful they trust me with their entire home.

Saying goodbye to Baby Bird wasn’t easy, but I knew the day would come. It was more important to me that he be successful out in the wild than stay with me in a cage. It was a great experience to care for this little bird. I didn’t think that I could love him this much.

I thought I saw him once. An awkward bird, larger than when I saw him last, chest feathers still a bit ruffled, landed on our black fence. I looked at him, and he looked at me for just a second then flew off. I’ll never know if that was really him, but I want to believe it.

When I go out for walks and I see the group of finches, I call out in my baby voice, ā€œHi, Baby Bird,ā€ and I hope that he hears me and knows I’m always nearby. I pray he comes back to visit his tree someday. Farewell, Baby Bird. ā™„ļø #babybirdrescue #babyfinch by @lemonadehomes

Oh, goodness! Adventures with a baby bird learning to fly can be a little scary. I always supervised the outdoor visits. In fact, I left work and tasks to be done later because I spent so much time outside with this little bird. After he got a taste of the outdoors, inside and in a cage seemed torturous for him. I thought I was supervising to keep him safe from predators. I was also there to fish him out of the pond. It didn’t stop this determined little one. He dried and was back at it! Learning to fly isn’t easy.#babybirdrescue #babyfinch by @lemonadehomes

Van’s baseball team, the Thousand Oaks Bulldogs, found an abandoned baby bird at practice, and since I have chickens, I got nominated for rescue duty! He made his journey home in a Domino’s wing box. I honestly wasn’t sure he’d survive the night, but a heating pad and some warm egg yolk did the trick. The team named him Baby Bulldog, but he’ll always be my Baby Bird. #babybirdrescue #babyfinch by @lemonadehomes

It's shady over here! All the sunnshades are sewn, attached, and sailing the wind overhead. It doesn't look like much, but this coverage does block so much sun and heat. You can walk barefoot under there in August!! Let's see how long this burlap (with a tiny bit of nylon reinforcement) lasts. We can hoist them up and down like a sail on a ship, so the shades can go up and down as the weather or our needs change. It feels good to put the sewing machine away for a while. by @lemonadehomes

It’s one of the only areas of our whole property renovation that’s done@-
Zander’s dojo. It’s our little sanctuary. But that sun…It’s relentless out there.

We needed sun shades, and I decided to approach our renovations with natural materials - no plastic. Most store-bought sun shades are made of just that.

I search the internet far and wide and bought years worth of burlap off a wedding planner and decided to sew our own shades. I’m smiling in this video because I officially have sewn 10 panels, but I didn’t love this project. What didn’t get myself into? It took a lot of trial and error to sew these properly so they wouldn’t rip. I had to give in and break my ā€œno plasticā€policy by adding small strips of nylon to reinforce the pockets that hold the dowels. With sun, wind, and other weather the burlap tugs and pulls and eventually would rip without support. So…we’re still mostly plastic free in Zander’s dojo. When these degrade I can compost the burlap and sew again. Now that I know what I’m doing, it shouldn’t be too bad.Right? 🤪🫠 by @lemonadehomes

Proud doesn’t quite cut it. ā˜ŗļø Tonight’s game at Cooperstown will be one he’ll remember forever. The Bulldogs were up by one, Van on the mound with bases loaded and two outs. He closed the deal with a strike out. The Bulldogs for the win. #cooperstownweek11 by @lemonadehomes

Alice would be mortified if she knew I was posting this! Although I did promise her that her hair looked like perfection as I snapped this, and flattery seems to appease her. Alice, you somehow seem to fit right in with the 1950s pink tub, but most supermodels make it look easy. Love you, girl.

So, what’s with the soak? Backyard chickens need a little extra care from time to time,
from a foot issue, to being egg bound, or poopy butt feathers. Out of respect for Alice, I won’t disclose the reason for her ā€œspaā€ treatment, as I like to call it.

Getting a chicken in a bath isn’t easy, at least not with our girls. I’ve tried different tubs and crate scenarios, and they were all problematic. Then, I saw this container hack on Instagram, and I had a small container leftover after purging some Christmas decor last year. Viola!

I wish I could remember from whom I learned this trick, so I could give them credit. Thank you. It works like a charm.

About 30 minutes after this bath, I find a still-damp Alice in the dirt. It’s a hot day. I assume she’s loving it, and following up with a dirt bath after her soak at the Pink Spa! by @lemonadehomes
