“In the Fields of My Youth” 20 in x 24 in, oil on canvas
—
It seems as the years go by, the world around me begins to shrink. The colors don’t seem as vibrant as they used to be, and reality stains the corners of my peripheral vision.

My stuffed animals, once my inseparable friends, now collect dust between my bed and the wall. Still, even though I’m walking away from the dreams of my youth, growing up doesn’t mean I’ve lost who I used to be.

Wherever I go, I’ll still carry my childhood with me.
—
I wanted this painting to capture the complexity of growing up, especially that moment of when you go from a kid to an adult. I’ve always felt stuck in the past, feeling like everyone else was growing up way faster than I was. Even so, I don’t want to let go of this side of myself; I feel like it helps me find joy in the little things :) I hope this painting resonates with you, whether it be for the same reason or different.

(Thank you daniel dove for being an awesome professor 😝!! And to my friends who stayed in painting jail with me until 2am…)

Thank you to @pvacaliforniachapter and @csulb_schoolofart for giving me the opportunity to participate in this wonderful project! It was an honor to draw Jose and hear his story, and it was an eye opening experience :)

—
The first time I met Jose, I was struck by the light in his eyes. It felt lively, as if every moment seen was a new memory to be embraced and cherished. I wanted to capture that light with my pencil and trap it in the paper. I wanted to show others the sparks that flew when he told his story to my class, sparks bright enough to set fire to the imagination and immerse us in his life experience. I am incredibly grateful and honored that Jose has chosen my portrait as the one that best represented him; for myself, it feels like I’ve achieved my goal as an artist of capturing the energy and individuality that defines a person. Thank you to everyone who made this project a success!! And special thanks to Jose Reynoso, the veteran who modeled for the project, and my professors Yulia Gasio and Marian Stewart for guiding me in the right direction on my artistic journey :) You’re all a big inspiration for me and I’ll keep pushing forward to be the best version of myself! taken in Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center by @lemonpopdrops

In the woods, an unlikely pair of adventurers set off on a journey with a shared goal but different destinations.

A knight who wishes to save her father from his grief, and a wizard who searches for his missing grandparents, the only family he’s ever known.

Although their relationship begins as a contract of convenience, they begin to redefine each other’s meaning of trust, duty, and identity.

This is a key story moment that I decided to illustrate for one of my design classes :) i was going to explain what was going on but SIKE you guys will have to figure it out eventually... i do plan to post more about them in the future so if you’re interested please comment “#needthat” and i shall feed the fans. But here’s my process and sketches and a fun doodle surprise at the end :))
