My ‘Week of Outfits’ up on @cupofjo now 👀😵‍💫🙈💀👻 (did I really just type that what is life) —

I’ve been reading Joanna’s words since her first born was an infant. So 11 years. It was lovely to talk to her about clothes, sewing, parenthood, BIPOC makers, @ginastovall, and so many things that couldn’t all make it into the post. This was a big deal for me and it was both really fun and a complete existential crisis to capture my style in five looks. Thank you to my partner for all the pictures and the truckers on Knight St who refrained from honking at me while I posed, mortified. I’m basically always an introverted attention seeker, in a perfect Venn diagram. Don’t look at me, but why aren’t you looooooking at me and paying attention to meeeee.

Anyway, I love you and this weird corner of the internet. Thank you for your immensely supportive words. I’ll get back to you soon after I’m done being overwhelmed by all the kindness. Joanna— it was so lovely to speak with you.

Well, this was a very cool thing. Sifting through imposter syndrome and emerging through the other side to document: Lemon is in October’s issue of @chatelainemag!
🥸🤯😭🥳🫣🫠🤡🥹

“A Stitch in Time” — a feature of five Canadians who recently learned to sew, some during the pandemic.

Many thanks to @feliciachangphoto for making me feel at home during the photoshoot and for capturing me and my favourite dress. @isabelslone for interviewing me and sorting through my sewing process and motherhood journey.

This little hobby of mine has taken me to some unexpected places and I’m grateful for it all. 💛

🩵 September work fits 🩵

Work mirror selfies are my love language to myself, the lighting is always terrible, I’m always in between a meeting or a big talk but it’s just two seconds where I capture who I am and what I wore for that day. I’m always nostalgic for the old days of this app, and this is the closest it feels to those days when all our pictures were a little bit grainy but very very us.

Thank you @baroquehour xo!

I’ve never been a huge jewelry person but want to change that and have been investing in some pieces lately. I like that @baroquehour specializes in so called ‘imperfect’ pearls- meaning not your standard round ones - but i like their shape even better! 🤍

Notes:

- Dyrehaven is the most magical place for nature and coming across 100 deer at once 🦌

- take the harbour bus’ scenic route along the canal and end up at Reffen street market, which has dozens of international food stalls and so much to do. Ismargariet ice cream ftw.

- @arkenmuseum is one of the most thoughtful, fun, awe inducing museums I’ve been to. Was debating between this and Louisiana, and super happy we went with Arken. Thomas Rambo’s exhibit ‘Garbageman’ is spectacular but so are all the pieces inside. Super interactive.

- Danish beaches are a secret gem? The water is so clear and pretty and the sand is so nice. And it’s quiet!

- try Juno baked goods but if you want to skip the line, @prologcoffee.cph stocks Juno’s pastries and had incredible coffee and matcha that you can sit down and enjoy!

- bry’s additions: for his solo days he went to La Banchina for two meals and a swim in between, and Thorvaldsen museum to sit and draw and admire the Danish blue

Dreamy 🇩🇰.. a perfect 2 weeks.

🎈 42!! 🎈

I feel so lucky and settled. All the people I’ve collected, waking up to my family, the privilege of this summer.
So happy to be getting older. Thank you, xo

Birthday dress:
🎈 The Olive dress pattern by @florachild.co - it’s so beautiful, thank you Kristina! I made a size C according to my bust because there’s a lot of ease. Next time I might shorten the neck by an inch. There’s a matching kids pattern!!! I’ll be making something for M for sure.

🎈Fabric is @blackbirdfabrics in a Japanese crinkle cotton that I’ve treasured in my stash for 3 years.

I’ve had this vision in my head for ages and I’m very pleased with how it’s come out! Birthday sewing is ✨✨

This city is my favourite city in the world, there I said it! This is the smallest recap of our first week. Part II to come.

My algo has been flooded with what cool girls wear in Copenhagen during fashion week: this is my mom of 2 wearing mostly memade clothes version, from my carry on travel capsule (see previous posts). We were blessed with gorgeous weather and some hot days, wherein we went and jumped in the canals.

Highlights:
- Candy coloured Nyhavn is beautiful and much less crowded at dusk, when locals are out with a glass of wine and you wander over bridges staring at Papirøen and all the architecture.

- On hot days, everyone flocks to the clean water of the harbour baths. This was so dreamy, costs nothing, just everyone enjoying the water in the heart of the city. With kids, I would go to Island Brygges or Fiskerorvet, without kids you could go to any harbour spot, especially La Banchina.

- At least twice we try to trade off so each grown up gets a solo day. I went shopping in Indre By for mine ( will do a post on shopping!! 👀 ) and brunch at @atelierseptember . My main takeaway after this trip is how much I love a BMO now, which is good bread, cheese and salted whipped butter..

- Tivoli Gardens, one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. We stayed 8 hours and it was absolutely so fun for all of us to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. Get @gasolinegrill ! Go on the wooden roller coaster twice! ( when you’re getting overwhelmed go find the aquarium and visit my friend, the blue pout pout fish)

- So many cool playgrounds. Konditaget Lüders is on the rooftop of a parking garage, and the Traffic playground is a huge no car zone park staffed during the weekdays with bikes and helmets on loan.

- @designmuseumdanmark was inspiring and beautiful and I loved learning that Wegner’s chairs were influenced by the Chinese Ming dynasty.

- We surprisingly didn’t bike around much because public transportation is soooo efficient here and cheaper than if we rented an e-bike, but can’t wait to be back when they’re older and can rip around on bikes together (my love language).

We first went camping in Iceland 11 years ago with a rental car, newly married, our tent from home. On that magic trip, I knew one day when we had kids, we had to come back ✨

If you’ve been considering it- do it! These tips made our trip doable and so lovely:

- depending on what kind of car travellers your kids are, pick distances that make sense for the whole family. We had originally hoped to make it as far East as Jökulsárlón but decided that we preferred not to have long driving days

- rent a camper van!! an absolute upgrade from camping with a tent, and we felt so grateful when the weather turned rainy and windy. There are so many companies but we went with @rentcampervans and absolutely would again. They were the best value, super communicative, and def the company we saw the most on the road.

- they provided everything we needed- we were warm at night, had window shades to block out the midnight sun, it was surprisingly spacious inside. We got the VW California Beach and named her Betty. Kids loved the top bunk.

- if you’re from North America, camping in Iceland is not the same. You can roll into any campsite and they have space for you - because there aren’t individual campsites like at home. Having a camper was great for the extra bit of privacy.

- When you’re feeling grumpy, just add water! We loved Secret Lagoon (welcoming of kids, best value for entry fee) and discovered the free mud baths at Hverdalir Geothermal Area right outside Reykjavik - you just have to pay for parking.

- eat out sparingly and shop at Bonus/ Kronan to save $. Butter and skyr and chocolate are so good here.

- our absolute favourite core memory campsite was at Pakgil (will need 4x4 to get there). The road there is otherworldly like you’ve landed on a different planet.

- Despite only 1 sunny day all week, our kids voted @rentcampervans as their second most favorite home of all the places we stayed in Europe, which is HIGH praise given that the top spot had a pool, tubs of lego and two cats. They loved the adventure and animals and being together in such a hygge van. 🚐

Q’s about camping in Iceland? Would you try it?

Iceland is verdant green and glacial blue and lupine purple and obsidian lava rock. It was our second time and first with kids, and it is still the most raw and present land I’ve ever been to. Wind, rain, sun, waterfall, sand, Icelandic ponies, all of it.

Wore the same thing more or less 5 days straight (@simply_merino under layers and @fairechild and @glasnostworkshop rain gear, couldn’t have have done it without you ladies).

Puffin sightings! Arctic terns!

Will be back. Will post more soon, got some tips for you.

Hej! We have been having a lovely week in Reykjavik with the main goal being to settle in and live like a local family. It’s been 11 years since B and I have been here, and now with two babies in tow.

Taking little adventures to the local heated pool, walking along the sea wall everyday, seeing the sites, sensory bending art exhibit at @hofudstodin, Icelandic marriage cake at @braudogco, biking, and devouring Icelandic butter and Skyr.

Biking to the Nordic House (on Sundays they have free concerts at 3pm in the greenhouse) was so pretty, and exploring the Halsa opera hall is gorgeous.

Clothes: MVP this week has been my denim button up I made for this trip. So far not too bored with my clothes yet. It’s been averaging 12 degrees, so cool and a bit windy. Pack accordingly!

Everyone has been so kind and it blows my mind how bilingual everyone is here. Takk, Reykjavik - see you again!
