„I left the window open for you“ von Lena Marie Emrich (@lenamemrich) lässt dich im Kreuzgang mehrere Stationen durchlaufen: eine lichtdurchscheinende Fotografie zweier Personen kurz vor einer Berührung. Zwei Mobiles, die sich leicht bewegen und die Farben ihrer Umgebung spiegeln, und Gedichtfragmente in kupferrotem Licht, die sich erst beim Gehen zu einem Ganzen fügen. Der Weg durch den Korridor selbst wird hier zum Teil des Werks.

Die Einzelausstellung ist noch bis zum 11.10. zu sehen, also komm vorbei! Immer Dienstag bis Sonntag, 11 bis 18 Uhr.

“I left the window open for you” by Lena Marie Emrich takes you through several stations in the cloister: a translucent photograph of two people just moments before they touch. Two mobiles that move gently and reflect the colours of their surroundings, and fragments of poetry bathed in copper-red light, which only come together to complete a whole when you walk past them. The walk through the corridor itself becomes part of the artwork here.

The exhibition runs until 11 October, so drop by! Open every Tuesday to Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm.

In 1963, a young student faces an unintended pregnancy - in a society where abortion is illegal and reproductive self-determination is denied. What begins as a biological process becomes a question of class, control, and bodily autonomy. Illegality forces the event into secrecy, turning the female body into a site of social and political power. Between desire, shame, and existential resolve, Das Ereignis tells the story of a body over which others seek to claim authority. At a time when reproductive rights are once again being politically contested and restricted, the production brings Ernaux’s radical act of remembrance into urgent dialogue with the present.

Muscular Hope (Out of the Hesitation Series), 2026

A translucent photograph layered behind frosted foil covers a pair of glass double doors to the director’s office at Kunsthalle Osnabrück. The photograph depicts two silhouettes suspended just before touch: physical contact has not yet taken place, but can already be sensed, preserved at the threshold.

In Rowing laughter crawling down the spine, 2026, a mobile moves gently, reflecting its surroundings. Laughing mouth shapes made of mirror and faux marble mark the transition into the side wing of the cloister, paving the viewer’s way into the unconscious.

Rückgrat, 2026

The kinetic sculpture moves beneath the surface, towards the structure that keeps the body upright. A curved spine, entirely clad in mirror, the reflections of those approaching it into its surface, making them momentarily part of the sculpture.

The title draws on the German word Rückgrat, composed of Rück, referring to the back, and Grat, a crest. The spine becomes legible as the line that holds, carries and raises us. In Emrich’s work, however, the body appears not as a functional system, but as a sensitive structure.

Shaped by screens, the compulsion to perform and the demand for constant productivity, contemporary life has increasingly estranged us from bodily awareness. Emrich transforms the mirrored surface into a sensuous counter-screen.

“Where true selves leak, through pores, spine, mouth.”

Inscribed in bronze-toned light, words unfold across the window bays of the cloister in the @kunsthalleosnabrueck . Their shadows travel across the tiled floor, shifting and continuously rearranging themselves.

Amid acceleration, digital superimposition, and social fragmentation, the transformed corridor becomes a liminal space, heightening perception and returning us to immediate sensory experience.

The exhibition unfolds within a post-surrealist terrain. Here, the unconscious does not appear as a motif, but as a driving force that reconfigures the very terms through which perception and concept encounter one another.

REVERSED VIEW, 2026

Within a window bay at Kunsthalle Osnabrück, Lena Marie Emrich installs an ornamental window grille. Displaced from exterior to interior, it becomes both threshold and barrier, rendering protection visible as an ambivalent spatial condition.

At its centre, a natural acrylic stone inlay depicts a turning female figure whose skin and ribs appear to peel away. A bronze mirror occupies the opening of the body, folding the viewer into the image.

“Drops of sweat, shiny pearls, the most honest jewellery.”

Lena Marie Emrich transforms the cloister of the former monastery at Kunsthalle Osnabrück into a sensuous parcour of mirrors, bronzed light, fragmented, laughter and exposed interiors. The hallway becomes more than a passage. It becomes a body, a spine, a threshold. Across kinetic sculptures, translucent surfaces, bronze reflections and a poem moving through twelve windows, the exhibition opens a space between protection and vulnerability, touch and hesitation, architecture and skin.

Der Kreuzgang wird in kupferrotes Licht getaucht. Durch die Fensteröffnungen werfen Worte ihre Schatten auf den gefliesten Boden. Sprache zerfällt hier in ihre Einzelteile, wird Rhythmus, wird Bewegung.

Der Korridor wird dadurch selbst als Körper erfahrbar. Fenster, Gitter und Stoffe erscheinen als Schwellen, Häute und Membranen. Spiegel als empfindliche Rückkopplungen. Wände als nachträglich eingezogene Gelenke. Die einzelnen künstlerischen Arbeiten verbinden sich zu einer räumlichen Anatomie, in der Innen und Außen nicht mehr eindeutig voneinander zu trennen sind. Die Arbeiten zeigen Körper nicht als geschlossene Oberflächen, sondern als fragile, durchlässige Strukturen. Besucher:innen begegnen nicht nur Bildern von Körpern, sondern geraten selbst in ein Gefüge aus Blicken, Spiegelungen und Schwellen.

In einer Zeit, in der vieles gleichzeitig geschieht und Begegnungen sich zunehmend in den digitalen Raum verlagern, schafft Lena Marie Emrich im Kreuzgang der Kunsthalle Osnabrück einen Ort der Offenheit, der Ruhe und der Begegnung.

The cloister is bathed in copper-red light. Through the window openings, words cast their shadows onto the tiled floor. language breaks down into its separate parts, becoming rhythm, becoming movement.

As a result, the corridor itself can be experienced as a body. Windows, grilles, and fabrics appear as thresholds, skins, and membranes. Mirrors serve as sensitive feedback loops. Walls as joints inserted retrospectively. The individual artistic works come together as a spatial anatomy in which interior and exterior can no longer be clearly separated. The works present bodies not as closed surfaces, but as fragile, permeable structures. Visitors encounter not only images of bodies, but find themselves drawn into a fabric of gazes, reflections, and thresholds.

At a time when so much is happening simultaneously and encounters are increasingly shifting to the digital realm, Lena Marie Emrich creates a space of openness, tranquility, and encounter in the cloister of the Kunsthalle Osnabrück.
