We love to dance.

Dancing makes us happy.

We will go and dance with @daybreakerdc National Geographic in Washington DC - October 3, yoga at 6am, dancing starts 7am.

Let’s go dancing!?

Come @dybrkr with us and @chrisnitti_ @heatherluna__sound and @lolavillabynature

-/-

We think surrounding our art with music is good.

We think music that makes us dance around the art is better.

As @lenfantgallery expand our definition of the arts, we have started offering our gallery space to other creatives in the city. We have hosted DJs @heatherluna__sound @chrisnitti_ @camilabenach and @farid.azouri to bring their music in with some tech from @lucid.district

We often talk about art as a source for happiness and have shared a lot of science from the World Health Organisation and others about the health benefits of exposing oneself to the arts in all their forms.

Here we share some articles we have been reading about the mental health benefits of dancing.

The National Institute of Health, The Lancet and Harvard Medical School are among those who have published research on the relationship between dancing and health.

DJ magazine has also shared thoughts on how electronic music positively affects us. Also discussed by @emma.marshall.mim and British Psychotherapist @rachel.giddings_ whose new documentary “The Psychology of the Dancefloor” is on youtube.

We give a shout to the professionals who have performed in our space and who share a respect for MUSIC AND MOVEMENT AS ART; @angelramdance @angelvramirez @vikydavis @vm.ortiz @miss.rachael.k.small @evamystique @hannahpilarrr @gigiholliday @tansyburlesque @bebe.bardeaux @iamshannonashlia

A month ago we were @femmeartfair showing with our presence that we believe supporting female artists is not a movement, it’s a market correction.

Then last week we stood outside the Kennedy Center showing with our presence that we believe in creative freedom, cultural preservation and @handsoffthearts

At L’Enfant Gallery, BLUE BIRDS ALWAYS FLY OVER RAINBOWS…

This first picture we call “Big Hawk Chasing Small Blue Bird” (1828). It shows a large hawk pursuing a small blue bird.

This image could be seen as a predator about to go in for the kill. But we see it differently.

These birds give us the sense of hope; the smaller nimble youth wearing blue, is moving forward with speed and skill towards a brighter tomorrow.

We are looking towards a time where the previously assumed smaller and weaker are now navigating the conventional power and taking the lead.

-/-

Last month we surrounded ourselves with many others who shared this forward looking optimistic view.

We attended the annual @takeleadwomen conference where we had the honour of listening to many wise people including @gloriafeldt @realjennash @vadamanager @cheyenne.l.hunt and Margaret Atwood.

That same week we spent time @femmeartfair where @maggieoneillco and @amibeckeraronson were in conversation with @skyeperryman @adriannahopkins
@lechefswife @nextchapther @dcmoms

To those who conceived, produced and made @femmeartfair happen, especially @usanusan_ @voteforyourdaughter - we thank you for making this happen, in our city, at this time.

We want to give our best in show shout out to @femmeartfair exhibited artist @luciennemettam (2) whose astounding pencil drawings we are happy to have taken home.

Shout to @violetredstudio (3) @brittanymonacreates (4) @suzibalamaciart (5) @maggiemichaelart (6) @leslie_holt_studio (7,8) @maryearly (9) and fearless @artbyhibaa - your talent held our attention.

It is with great sadness that Peter asked us to share this portrait of his friend Alexander Acevedo (1945-2026)

“I buy what I love and spend every dollar in my account on it. As a dealer, when I meet someone who feels the same way about a piece, the ownership just seems to transfer naturally.” —-

Alex Acevedo died on Thursday morning. Peter was in NYC to see him, but Alex didn’t make the meeting.

In the days that have followed, Peter, now 78, has spoken to many old friends. Federico Castelluccio shared his recent charcoal portrait of Alex, and gave us his blessing to share it.

Alex was a legend for Peter and many in the art world.

The Alexander Gallery first opened in 1976 and moved to the great Madison Avenue space in 1981. Alex held so much more than 18th/19th cent paintings, Old Masters and #hudsonriverschool . Peter remembers Beard, Church, Cole, Durand, Moran, Remington, Gilbert Stuart…

Peter and Alex share a similar story: both trained by experience; art historians who ‘made it’.

“I grew up in Harlem… so, needless to say, there wasn’t any artwork hanging on the walls. My first exposure was through my mother’s prayer cards that were printed with Carlo Dolci’s religious paintings…I started dealing in coins when I was 12. My hunting grounds were the subway stations from the Bronx to Brooklyn, where I had a network of stationmasters I traded with. From sales of coins and rare comics,… I bought my first painting... I sold it immediately and was instantly hooked.” —-

Peter does not recall Alex mentioning a connection to the founding of @americanartfair , but we note those involved incase they also know Peter and Alex and have a story to share: @thomascolville_fineart
@weinsteingallery @vallarinofineart @smg_gallery

When @meyerfineartgallery shared the Polar Sea (The Cathedral), 1867, by George Curtis Peter said “that was the greatest one…”

Quotes from artron.net and we use only because Peter told us “this sounds just like Alex”. by @lenfantgallery

Artist Bio: Mario Russo (1925-2000) was an Italian painter, born in Naples and received his formal art education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, where he studied painting and sculpture. Russo exhibited his works in galleries and museums around the world, including the Venice Biennale, the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, London.

Russo spent most of his life in Rome but inhabited its ancient past. This combination of past and present is visible in his work, and this series of hand coloured prints also show this enduring theme. His work with theatre also influenced his work.

In 1985, Peter Colasante was approached about the possibility of hosting an exhibition at his Washington DC gallery; The Calvert Gallery. This conversation resulted in the 'Fellini Show' of 1986 and a long friendship.

L’Enfant Gallery still hold a number of original paintings, drawings, lithographs and books by Russo. This includes Giacinto Spagnoletti’s 1992 biography titled “L’Uomo e le sue Immagini”. This comprehensive illustrated collection of twenty essays on Russo’s work can be seen in L’Enfant Gallery library. by @lenfantgallery

Short film premiers October 2, 2026 at 8pm @lenfantgallery as part of @falloffreedom

WHITE CANVAS will be screening in @lenfantgallery , 1442 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington DC from 8pm on October 2nd until 8am on October 4th as part of the @falloffreedom movement and in line with our believe that

ART IS IMPORTANT

and

COURAGE IS CONTAGIOUS

WHITE CANVAS (2026) is a short film written, directed and edited by @vikydavis , filmed by @sliceofcamilo
photography by Tabata Vara, featuring performers @e.crdancer21 @vikydavis and Tabata Vara

Artist statement: “What happens when society prostitutes itself? When the illusion is that Money is God? Community falls. The individual reigns and we enter a fight for survival. Individuals become lonely, isolated and fearful of one another. The symbiotic relationship between people and nature is now foreign, so to quench the need for closeness we possess, we need to accumulate things. We forget what we owe to this Earth and to one another. The work White Canvas looks at the extreme of this situation, when those who accumulate it all have dried up our resources but can’t stop searching for more things to consume and to own.”

If you are on @georgetownmainst to see this, please also go and see @bellvisuals exhibition @addisonripley just up the street.

Keeping a small and independent business alive is no small achievement.

@vintagevintagevintage.dc turned 2 last week.

So we made them a BIG NUMBER to show our respect; from one small independent business to another.

They also just got an actual photo booth which is very VERY happy making, so much so, it made the refrigerator door, in good company with @femmeartfair flier, @phillipscollection tickets and a @caldergardens pass.

-/-

WHATS WITH THE BIG NUMBERS?

We have kids. We won’t take plastic toys as gifts to other kids parties, so we make them big numbers instead.

The ‘VVV big 2’ features an old @lenfantgallery exhibition poster with #dmvdancer @vikydavis and a 1945 signed photographic print. This image was captured by #dmvphotographer @the.elements.project . The poster was part of our International Women’s Day show titled ‘Wall of Women’.

For Libby and Rajni we added some neon letraset
“DONT BE NAKED GET SOME VINTAGE VINTAGE..”

For those interested in the small details, these words are a contemporary art history twist on the famed @guerrillagirls poster “Do you have to be naked”….

Along the bottom of this big 2 are prints of Man Ray’s work including his famous portrait of Kiki de Monpanas who was a bad ass female artist, model and muse in Paris in 1920’s (we have a self portrait @lenfantgallery painted by Kiki).

WHAT IS VINTAGE VINTAGE VINTAGE?

Visit 1348 4th Street NE, Washington, DC, in the historic former bank building in @unionmarketdc
