Spent the weekend enjoying time off-trail in Mineral King. Returned to one of the first places I ever backpacked via the ridge dividing the adjacent lake basin. Finally getting around to editing some Memorial Day Weekend footage. We did this trail on Thursday, hoping to best the crowds and that, well, as a failure. Crowds are one thing, but something that surprised us was the behavior from people on trail. People… your loud music does not belong on trail. You are at best annoying others, and at the worst are driving wildlife away that everyone else came to see. The High Sierra Trail and I reacquainted for a night after a few years spent exploring other places. I think I’ve forgotten just how magical this trail is, even in the first dozen miles or so.
