Little compilation from the Brussels Chinese Pole Convention 2024. I cannot explain how beautiful and refreshing it is to meet up with talented beautiful people and spend a weekend sharing and exploring. Every year I go there I think "this is the best weekend of my year". Thank you to everyone that played with me, taught me things and learnt from me. I feel super grateful that the Chinese Pole community is so open, friendly and sharing. I think a lot of other circus disciplines are often inspired by our energy, cause when you see Chinese Polers together 💥
Thank you @rociogarrote and Aviva for organising this convention with si much love. It really makes a difference!
I am looking forward to more collaborations and projects that involve playing in the future. We are cooking something 👀

Another edition of too hot to train, brought to you by summer and its excellent timing. Thinking about how much I love training in Barcelona while I melt just thinking about climbing.

Some days the heat wins.

—

Training deadlifts and thought, why not chain two together instead of one? Then thought, why not make it heavier, why not do it in heels? Then I remembered my ceiling has its own opinion on the matter. The ceiling won this round hahaha. But the deadlifts got trained either way.

—

We began making my very first solo show over a year ago now. It began with @_jbelamor and I fighting (most literally) against a lot of complex technology... Touch Designer was new, video tracking, body mapping... It was an ambitious project (as it said on the rejection note of a co-production we applied for), but we were excited. I had something to tell. I still do, and the time is getting closer and closer to share it wit the whole world.
Soon after @davidavs_ was on board, and I felt so grateful that my first ever show has his sound in it.
We went through an initial creation phase with the lovely outside eye support of @gannapoppea and @javierarizabarcina , whose input was invaluable for shaping the skeleton of LUMEN.
Then my amazing dramaturg @angelaharrisbueno joined the team and she became indispensable. Not just because her view of the show helps me stay on track always, but also because she truly came with fresh energy, believing in the project and doing more always than I would ask her for.
And with that the core team was complete: Leire, Joel, David & Ángela on an adventure to make a show that is not a show (what is it then? an experience? a reflection? an interaction? a challenge?). To create, experiment and keep growing together. I am eternally Grateful for you guys.
And of course so many other people joined along the way, for one or several says they have provided a helping hand, and LUMEN would not be without them, so thank you to the entire team:
- Visual design: @_jbelamor, @t0deschini
- Music: @davidavs_
- Dramaturgy: @angelaharrisbueno
- Mentorship: @kasper_vandenberghe_
- Graphic Design: @selfotherr
- AI Support: @javiicarreraa
- Video: @leixandrefroufe
- Costume: @oliazul
- External eye / mentorship: @kasper_vandenberghe_
- External eyes: @suheila.duque, @gannapoppea , @javierarizabarcina
- Direction and Interpretation: @lenxa.fv

Very grateful and excited to keep working on this project and for our premiere next year.
If you want to stay tuned, see the trailer or learn more about the show and our upcoming dates visit our website: www.lenxacircus.com/lumen

Turning 30 today and I'm feeling it all: excitement, gratitude, maybe a little disbelief that this is where I am.

There's something that shifts when you get older. You stop trying to fit into spaces that weren't built for you. You learn to say no without explaining yourself. You understand what you need and you become kinder to yourself. I'm grateful for all of that, the hard-won clarity that comes with time.

This decade ahead feels different. I can feel it. There are things I'm working on that I can't quite share yet, but they're coming, and I'm genuinely excited about where they're going. I think this is going to be a time of real growth, the kind that matters.

But mostly I'm just grateful. Grateful for the people who have been here since the beginning, who have known me for all 30 years and loved me through them. And grateful too for everyone who has come into my life more recently and somehow already feel essential.

I'm looking forward to sharing this next phase with you. Whatever comes, I want to do it alongside the people I love! <3

First move I still haven't quite cracked. I get up, I finish it, but it's far from smooth, one of those that keeps humbling me every time. Then there's my favourite transition of them all, the kind that just feels so good no matter how many times I do it.

Last year I went down a rabbit hole looking for exits from splits, some I found myself, some came from other people. Turns out there are so many of them I could probably run a whole workshop on just that.

Training pole dance through the heat today. I'll probably miss it the second it's gone, so I won't complain too much :)

—

The deadlift on flying pole and I have had a complicated relationship. I had been trying it for a while, in scattered and occasional trainings, and it always felt so difficult. Some days you just assume it is a strength issue and keep pushing through.

Then one day, feeling a bit desperate, I stopped and thought: my strength should be enough for this, so something else must be off. I asked @emma_gabrielsson to send me a video of her doing it, and there it was. I had been using the wrong leg coming down since day one.

So many wasted attempts for something so simple to fix (agh being self-taught...). But that is training life sometimes, you laugh about it later. Thank you Emma for the help!

—

This was the only space in Madrid where I could show up and train Chinese Pole with relative ease. Relative, because it still meant setting up and taking down every single time, and the pole only ever reached 4.5 meters. Now that space does not exist anymore.

I will miss it.

Sometimes I wonder why I picked a discipline that is this hard to find a place to rig. If anyone out there wants to open a Chinese Pole space, please, take this as your sign 🙃

—

This Bird of Paradise variation feels like a little gift. It's so much more accessible than the original, less demanding on your body, but somehow just as beautiful to move through. There's something really nice about discovering a version of a move that lets you breathe a bit, you know?

If you've never tried it, this is your sign. It's super cute, and I promise it's kinder than you think.

—
