🎉 Celebrating One Year of @lenzyclopaedia! 🌐🗣️

Dear language enthusiasts and fellow wanderers of words,
Today marks a special milestone: the 1-year anniversary of this account 🎂🎈

Exactly 365 days ago, we embarked on this linguistic journey together, fueled by curiosity, passion, and the sheer joy of exploring the world through language.

Thanks to all of you who are faithful readers of my content!

Let’s raise our virtual glasses to some incredible linguists and polyglots who’ve inspired us:

Olly Richards: His blog, “I Will Teach You A Language,” spills wisdom like an overflowing fountain. Olly’s eight languages and contagious enthusiasm remind us that learning is an adventure, not a chore.

If you are learning German and are still looking for a fun way, check out @germanbitesize. Tamara is great!

Learning Swiss German should be a piece of cake with @swissgermanbeginners - check her page out, she is very resourceful!

Now to a language of my heart: Greek 💙 I can only recommend @daily.greek - it‘s easy and fun and goes further than what you would learn in an ordinary language school.

Have fun exploring and see you soon! 👋 by @lenzyclopaedia

Welcome to the new format: the idiomatic express! Today, it‘s all about ducks. I posted #idiomatic #expressions in #english #french #german #spanish #greek and #chinese. I am sure there are many more languages who use idiomatic expressions with ducks.

Let me know in the comments if there is one in yours! 🦆🦆🦆

🔔 Jingeling! 🔔

Christmas is coming! 🎄🎄🎄

There are many different ways of celebrating Christmas, and also many languages have a term for this special celebration.

While some languages bring the feast in relation with Christ’s birth, others seem to connotate it to a holy night.

What is Christmas called in your language? I am curious about non-Indo-European languages as well, is there also a term in Klingon 🧐? Let me know!!!

Welcome to another endangered language right in the heart of Europe: Sorbian! There exist about 30‘000 speakers in East Germany, most of them in the region of Lusatia (Lausitz).

One specialty of Sorbian is the dual. This is a seldom phaenomenon in European languages.

On the search of endangered languages, I found another gem right in Germany! Can you guess which language this is? I will answer in a separate post.

Happy December everyone!

The Rugby World Cup in France is getting very interesting now, the semifinals are coming up next weekend!

So - can you please tell us how you pronounce the „u“ in rugby? We have been debating for a while if there are several correct options… some of them sound weird 🥳

Here, you see a local women’s rugby match in Switzerland, video taken last weekend.
