“XY Mapping - Flower Vase”

XY Mapping is a project series exploring vacuum forming with 3D-printed sheets.
Rather than avoiding the limitations of vacuum forming, such as material stretching, post-process cutting, and undercuts, the project takes them as its starting point.
Since the sheets are 3D-printed, thickness and structure can be built up exactly where the material stretches and weakens, and colour marks these reinforced areas. As the material deforms, the embedded patterns stretch with it, turning a technical constraint into a pattern that is as structural as it is decorative.

This project began with a shift in perspective, treating incense wood as timber, like any other wood. It explores a new function for the miniature chair by using it as incense.

Growing trees with (hot) water🌲🌳

Comparison of the In Fill Out technique as applied to tree forms. Structural differences and heating times impact the outcome, resulting in unique appearances. Avoiding overhang angles enables printing without wasting any support material.
