Been there, done that! Big day in the books ✅.

- Gels eaten: 67 🤲🏻
- time sleeping: 2 x 1 sec. 🫣
- mechanicals: 0 🙏🏻
- stoping time: to much, lol 🫠

Honestly had a lot of fun on this course. Just some tears at the hike a bike section along the coast. Riding through the night felt so nice!
Super happy to share parts of the route with @leon.wsmnn and @ausreissercc and the best moral support by the @307racingteam

We'd been meaning to get out and shoot for a while, so when @leon.brmt came to visit a couple weeks ago, we finally made it happen. The weather didn't really play along, but we made the most of the few scattered hours of sunlight we got. Still pretty stoked with how things turned out. 🚵🏼🎥

Since the weather wasn't the best for daytime missions, we went out at night to test out the flash and light setup. Been planing to do some trippy night shots for a while now. ⚡🚨

One for the nerds👇🏼:
This is my setup that carried me through my first ultra-racing season. Drop your questions!

• Frame: @fairlightcycles Secan 2.5
The heart of this build. This 58R is by my side since 2023 and it’s perfect for long distance races.

• Wheels: @ninevelocycling GV45 SW
Complicated name but basically 45mm deep and super wide with 32mm internals. And they are light too. Plus even on a fully loaded setup you can smash them downhill.

• Groupset: Shimano xt di2 12-speed, 105 leavers, @mageneofficial TEO Carbon powermeter cranks.
I mixed the mtb derailleur with road leavers since I love the shape for my hands. Cassette is a 10-51 and chainring in run 40t. In my opinion the best ratio. I can still pedal on 60km/h downhills and for everything I can’t climb with the 40/51, walking is faster anyways. Chain is always waxed with @ceramicspeed UFO endurance hot wax. It lasts you forever.

• Bags: @tailfincycling
On all races so far I’ve been running the half frame bag 4.5L and the long top tube bag 2.2L. They give me plenty room for food in the top tube and layers, electronics and tools in the frame bag. Depending on the length and weather in run a rear top tube bag 0.9L or a down tube pack 3L on my seatpost with more layers, emergency bivy and first aid kit

• Lights: @exposure.lights
For the front I use the Toro 16. Its 12h mode is plenty bright enough and lasts me for the whole night. Paired with an Axis Mk9 on the helmet I can move confidently through technical off-road sections. My rear light is an old Tracer from 5 years ago.

Other components:
• saddle: Fizik Vento Argo Adaptive 140mm
• Seatpost: Roval Terra 20mm setback
• Stem: Tune 95mm
• Handlebar: EXS R200 carbon 380mm
• Aerobars: Profile design 43 ASC carbon, 60mm risers
• Tires: Specialized pathfinder 50mm
• Galfer disc break rotors
• Silca titanium bottle cages
• Hope silver headset and seatpost clamp by @leon__bmt

Istraland to end the season with a bang. So many up’s and down’s with a 7th place in the end. Beyond stoked. Full race-report below:

We set off on Friday at 7am, staying with the fast people and finding ourselves in the second group on the road with 4-6 riders out in front. We kept within our limits & shared work on the front to keep the group rolling.

Chaos hit at CP1 with riders splitting up after collecting their stamp. On the flats we used our aerobars & rode smart, picking up riders along the way before a poor line choice left me with a puncture, opening our day of disasters. With harsh, bumpy and sharp stoned coastline trails our luck chose the most non-remote place to get our next puncture. On a bikepath @leon.wsmnn hit a nail, puncturing his tire twice. Plugs fixed the holes but a damaged rim-tape left him with a slow leak, resulting in us stopping every 30 min to refill air, letting people fly by, we caught before.

After 250km and our stopping-time increasing, we decided to put a tube in. The death-scentence for our joined journey, since something (most likely sealant particles) punctured not one, but both of his spare tubes within minutes, resulting in a DNF for @leon.wsmnn. Hugging each other in tears before sending me off into the night with 130km to go, was the hardest part of the whole race.

The last 5h I just put me head down & tried to find my rhythm again. Intense thunderstorms hit the cost following me for the rest of my journey. The heavy rain left me wet in minutes with roads turning into seas of puddles and gravel climbs into rivers of mud.

After 4h of rainy night riding and me catching 3 riders along the wait, the sky turned clear giving me the chance to strip my rain jacket for the final 10k climb towards the finish. There I caught 2 more riders, agreeing to ride into the finish together for a joined 7th place, reaching the finish line Saturday 12:45am.

Beyond proud of us. Curious what would have been possible together, but hey, that’s bike racing. We learn and come back stronger

New shoe delivery 📦🩷.

Time to stock up on my favorite @quocshoes model, the Gran Tourer XC Lace.

I genuinely love the classic lace look which also gives me lots of adjustment to fit my foot perfectly. Pair that with a stiff carbon composite sole and you have a comfy race ready shoe, that worked flawlessly in my recent ultra races ✅.

Even though I’m not sold on the concept of stiffer = faster, I can say that wearing the stiffest off road shoe in Quocs lineup and still being able to do long hike-a-bike sections during my races, feels like I can have the best of both worlds 🤝🏻. So I take it ;)
