The editorial IKIGAI is about the Tabi shoe and its traditional Japanese roots, integrating both into a modern styling concept paired with a minimalist visual language. As a concept Ikigai is a motivating force, something that gives one a sense of purpose and fulfillment and seeing joy in everything that surrounds you.

Another one of the 1on1 sessions in my studio. We wanted to try some new outfits, some other cameras, albeit with the same kind of music. As a prolific pusher of black and white film, I used this chance to finally rectify my failings and push C41 film. To lovely effect, I'd argue.
Also, I opened up the back of my camera before shooting only to notice I had already loaded it some time ago. I was devastated - until I saw the images coming back from @carmencitafilmlab. I might have to start doing that intentionally.

I've recently come to be infatuated with a more heavy editing style and still, I feel too heavy-handed and cautious at once. Also still in the process of wrapping my head around a new digital system and how to handle the colours better. Which is a great incentive to get some experimentin' done, let me tell you. Let's see where I'll arrive when I get bored by the next slider.

Continuing to gather material for the coming website and playing around with a simple two flash setup in the studio. Especially great when you can work with friends such as these and discover along the way that one person not only lives near you but used to go to the same kindergarten and at the same time as yourself. The world is spectacularly small in some instances. What was the craziest coincidence you experienced on set or at work?

I've finally been doing what I missed for quite a while. 1 on 1 portraits, sedcards and personal projects. Working with a big team is as awesome as it gets but oftentimes, there is a tight schedule and far too little time to slow down, talk and let the mood take over the camera.

so, since I found a place for my own studio, and to bridge the time in which I don't want my models to lose several fingers and toes due to frostburn, I started doing these again. (you can book me!)

There's a few things i still need to work out at the new place, focusing slow, old cameras in dim light being one of them. In these lovely images I shot with Rose, I don't mind the missed focus at all. We were talking about our shared love for sad songs and music, and these images provide a good playground for their melodies, I think.

For photographers it is pretty enticing to bring as much gear as one can carry (why do you think I go to the gym? right, to carry a Pentax 6x7 or 4x5 camera). Self restraint was not booked on my faxofile that day and thus I ended up bringing 5 different cameras with. Contrary to popular belief, more cameras don't make for a better photographer albeit every single one trying to conv8nce themselves and others of that wishful thought.
Despite juggling half of mz collection, I managed to get some photos out of it that are worth showing. So here are some shot on various film stocks in differing states of disrepair.

The task for the end of this year was to settle in and really get to know the new studio space. Test the light, natural and new (to me) flashes I bought, borrowing light shapers and getting a feel how it's going to be working there for the coming year. Gotta say the vibes are off the charts!
Also, I'm still getting used to the Nikon, the files, the editing process but slowly I grow accustomed to it, I think. Still, there's so much to figure out and I can't wait to do all that and more next year. This is gonna be fun 🏹
