A friend wrote this obituary for Lemon, his beloved fur-child of 16 years, and sent it to me to share in honour of the celebration of her wonderful life. It moved me to tears and tugged on heartstrings that are beyond words — with both the living and the dead. I would like to share this gift with other kindred souls, so that you too may feel soothed, seen, understood, and know that you belong to this great love we share with our fur-children.

Obituary to Lemon 🍋
There are relationships in life that do not fit neatly into categories. They are not romantic partnerships, not friendships in the usual sense, not parenthood in the conventional human way, and yet they can hold as much devotion, intimacy, responsibility, and emotional significance as any of them. My relationship with Lemon was one of those.

Lemon was my dog for almost sixteen years. I had her from the time she was a baby until the end of her life. To call her “my dog” is factually true, but emotionally incomplete. She was family, companion, daily witness, responsibility, comfort, routine, and presence. In many ways, she occupied the place in my life that for others might be filled by a spouse, children, or a household built around multiple people. For me, it was Lemon and me.

She was not an ordinary little creature in the way people casually imagine pets. She had a powerful personality, intelligent, cheeky, opinionated, selective, and deeply herself. She understood words and sentences. She knew routines. She knew how to manipulate me with a single look. She had preferences and boundaries, and she made them known.

Our relationship was built through thousands of ordinary moments that become invisible to outsiders but make up the architecture of love: waking up in the same home, moving through rooms together, feeding times, glances, habits, shared silence, little rituals, private jokes, the comfort of simple coexistence.

Important considerations to ponder when deciding on your preferred salon and behind the scenes costs of a cute, clean pooch or kitty cat.

When we quote the price of a groom, we sometimes get the shocked response: “But why does this cost more than what I pay to do my hair!”

This article will answer hopefully answer that question.

Something new is brewing at Le Pawtique 🐾

We’ve proudly transformed our website into a home for grooming knowledge — pet behaviour insights, coat care education, why your pet’s hair costs more than yours, and everything in between from over 15 years in the industry. It’s time to share, uplift, and grow together. So, watch this space.

This also means we’ve officially closed our online shop. We were one of fewer than five e-commerce sites in South Africa back in 2011 — back then, every word of copy, every product image, every pixel of design was painstakingly customised. It was truly a labour of love.

But onwards and upwards — our new chapter is about what we do best: grooming pets.

Had to jump on the bandwagon! 🐶 by @lepawtique

Thank you to our dear friends, family, customers and colleagues who so generously contributed to the fund in memory of our beloved Patisoni.

Your kindness will go directly toward building a new family home for his wife and children back in Malawi—an incredible gift in this time of loss.
We are deeply grateful.

With all our love,
The Le Pawtique Team x by @lepawtique

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Patisoni, our beloved groomer and animal whisperer at Le Pawtique. For four wonderful years, his gentle nature and extraordinary gift for calming anxious animals touched countless lives - both furry and human. His unexpected passing on April 10, 2025, has left us devastated.

Patisoni leaves behind a loving wife and two young children.

I, Michelle Roniak will be running the Comrades Marathon for the first time and would like to honour his life in my quest. I’m using this opportunity to raise funds to support Patisoni’s family.

Any contribution, no matter how small will make a difference, and be hugely appreciated.

May he rest in eternal peace
