Nine years ago, Jennifer Finch called on fans to help her process a ton of old film, mostly photos of other musicians, both live shots and candids. I donated money, and about a month later, I got this postcard. I've had it hanging on my wall in my office/studio for years now.Jennifer's passing yesterday hit pretty hard. I found out while out with friends and didn't say anything to them, but it was necessary to pay proper respects. Jennifer wasn't only a killer bassist, but also a great photographer. She spent decades documenting various music scenes and those photos are precious (pun fully intended). Her body of work as a photographer serves as a reminder as to why scene documentarians are so important. I've spent years documenting Chattanooga's noise and experimental music scene, and even before that I was documenting sludge and doom metal bands across the southeast. Music scenes deserve to be remembered properly. Those pictures are little gemstones, important morsels of time that will outlive our physical forms. There are people I've photographed that I'm no longer in touch with, and people who are sadly no longer alive. Memories unfortunately can fade with time, so pictures, videos, audio recordings, interviews - that's what keeps memories for us.Today I'm putting on some of my favorite L7 tracks and going through my own massive backlog of concert photography. There's still so many pictures I haven't edited. I'm grateful I still have time on this Earth to do it. Thanks for everything, Jennifer. by @leperwitch

Hey everybody. First off, I wanted to thank you for so many kind messages of support in the past 2 -3 weeks. It's like little reaffirmations that I'm doing all this shit for the right reasons and people really do care about it. Things seem to have cooled down considerably, so I'll be back here to share little morsels when my hectic schedule allows.Aside from documenting this Friday's Chattanooga Noise Night, I've been working on the debut EP from @the.father.wound with my partner in crime Jerry, and I've been working on behind the scenes items for Women of Noise Fest. Additionally, I can tease y'all a little bit with the news that Leperwitch Album II is in the early writing stages. It's going to be a scorcher. Thanks so much for sticking around even on the occasions where things get messy - I mean hell, noise as a genre is messy, so of course the people who make it and their interpersonal relationships will also get messy at times. We're like that Emily Dickinson poem where frogs scream their names out in a bog, but the bog is full of those chemicals that turn them gay (yes, I made an Alex Jones joke 💀).Now I'm just rambling. TL;DR, stay hydrated and passionate about making creative things. See y'all when I'm not working ❤️‍🔥 by @leperwitch

Happy I finally got to attend an @ambient_night_chattanooga show last night. @sloow_blink puts a lot of work into making these happen, all in a very cozy bookstore with booze (AKA the fun kind). by @leperwitch

Hey everybody. As you've probably gathered by recent story posts, the past couple of weeks have been turbulent and full of upsetting events, both in the music sphere and outside of it. My mental health has taken a hit. In addition to that, my job has been demanding - moving up in the legal field means more high-volume workloads and extreme attention to detail. For these reasons, I'm largely going to be stepping back from this account for the next month. July will mostly be a void of content, save for photos I take of Ambient Night and Noise Night here in Chattanooga. I need time to focus on work, but also to just spend more time with friends, especially friends who aren't in the noise scene, the ones who love me just for me.I will still be posting to Women of Noise on occasion, especially since an updated flyer with a new performer will be completed soon. Other than that, my other accounts will also be dormant. I won't be answering messages on here that frequently. IRL friends, if you need my number, just DM me today and we can exchange info.Everybody else - you might catch me in some other parts of the internet infrequently. For now though, it's time to just decompress and hit the reset button in my head, and also to better prioritize what's actually important. Thanks for understanding. Please take care. by @leperwitch

Hey everybody. It's been...quite a week.I just wanted to quickly thank all of you who sent kind messages in the wake of a very rough decision I had to make. Ever since I started running Women of Noise in 2018, the goal was to focus on noise made by all different kinds of women from different walks of life, and I also had the goal of creating a safe community where women who make noise (or just listen to it) could network, set up shows, give gear tips and advice, and to help each other out when needed.Sometimes maintaining safe environments entails doing what your gut tells you is the right thing, even if it hurts to do it. Unfortunately I've been in a situation like this before with a local musician, a friend of 12 years and a former bandmate, who had a whole disturbing and horrible side to him I didn't know existed. I've also been sexually assaulted by people I thought were platonic friends, in a couple of instances, they were musician friends. I told nobody about it for years. I wish I had said something sooner. There's no way to nearly wrap this up. Some folks are probably pissed off at me, others are definitely gloating over this situation because they're shitty people (and they know who they are). I can't spend all my time trying to appease everyone. My priority, plain and simple, is making Women of Noise Fest 2026 an all-killer, no filler weekend where women who make a hideous racket can do so safe and sound, and where we can bond in our little sonic sisterhood. Women look out for each other, period.I hope to see y'all September 18th and 19th. Running a Fest is a massive undertaking and not easy to do when you also work full-time and have chronic illnesses. Love and support you've shown time and time again truly means a lot. This is all for you and about you, too. by @leperwitch

Last night's @chattanooga_noise_night had me thinking a lot about age. Microbial Sleeper Cell is CNN's oldest ever performer at nearly 69 years old. Watching him in the crowd were three children between the ages of 8 - 14. I remarked on this with friends, because it really drives home how noise IS for everyone. There's also no such thing as starting too early or too late. I only really got things going in my early 30s, while I know of middle schoolers who already have projects. In this context, age absolutely is just a number.Special shout-out to Treespots for almost having me turn into a sobbing mess during their set - as mentioned, noise is for everyone, and sometimes it can even be beautifully layered voices and a dulcimer. There are no rules. You just do it. by @leperwitch

June is PTSD Awareness month. As most of you know, I have Complex PTSD, the spiciest version, i.e. I have multiple traumatic events and time periods in my time that compunded on top of each other and turned my nervous system into soup. I write songs about my experiences with C-PTSD and with having a physical chronic illness too, because it's part of who I am and because I know others can relate. There are people who have followed me a long time, including friends, who probably wonder why I went from being a social smoker to smoking regularly, and the answer is because hemp cigarettes are helping to regulate my C-PTSD symptoms. They're non-addictive and are there for whenever you feel like one. It's a sort of calming ritual now that I enjoy. After another suicidal episode earlier this year, I became determined to help myself in ways that actually work. My medications were changed around, I started doing real work on emotional regulation, and I started smoking (legal items, mind you) on a regular basis. I haven't had any panic attacks or emotional flashbacks as of late, and my hypervigilance has lessened a bit, too.To be frank, 2025 was a horrible year for my mental health and after some things happened a couple months ago, I decided 2026 would be better for my mind and body. This is how I'm doing it. I've started on weight loss medication, I'm taking good care of my hair and skin, and I'm going back to a regular gym routine starting this week. It's baby steps, and it's better to go at a slower pace than not go at all.To tidy up this rambling narrative, healing is complex and coping mechanisms are, too. If you don't like smoking or think it's gross, cool. I'm doing what I can to keep my brain and body calm and in control, plus I just like it. I refuse to lose any more of myself to trauma, plain and simple. If you're struggling like I am, please do what feels right for you in terms of symptom management and self-care. You deserve it.#ptsdawareness #cptsd #smoking by @leperwitch

More photos of me in Memphis by @jdmadewell423 . The first photo is genuinely one of my favorites now. Life isn't perfect, but damn it if I don't love the person and artist I've become. Self-love is not inherently selfish. If you know you're good at what you do, say "Hell yeah, I'm kicking ass out there". You deserve to! by @leperwitch

Finally got around to editing more shots of my Birmingham set taken by @jdmadewell423 Really in love with the first shot. I'm big and sweaty and wearing a somewhat offensive shirt, and I'm screeching about some kind of mess. It's all me in my element. by @leperwitch
