“Everything is connected. I think that’s the sad silver lining to all of this—it has really opened people’s eyes. We are all connected—from my humanity to yours, from my oppression to yours, from my freedom and liberation to yours, my equality to yours. And it’s one of the reasons I kind of reject the idea of allyship, because I think we need to see each other as the same, as part of the same community. We need to fight these things together.”

“The difference is often what happens when nobody is watching. Creative people create because they have to. Ego-driven people create as a means to an end.”

“We are thrilled to celebrate Leica’s 100 years of innovation in one of the birthplaces of photography,” said Mike Giannattasio, President of Leica Camera North America. “The Leica I camera brought accessibility to the masses, and with this event we’re celebrating by taking photography out of the studio and onto the streets of New York City for all to partake. Leica has always believed in the power of photography to capture history, inspire creativity, and connect people across generations. As we celebrate 100 years of innovation, we remain committed to preserving and elevating the art of photography—honoring its past while embracing its future. From the earliest Leica cameras that revolutionized photojournalism to today’s cutting-edge technology, we continue to champion visual storytelling as an essential part of culture.” by @nakullax

Lesa Amoore, Photographer and Former Model Promotes Advocacy for Fashion Workers

Lesa Amoore, renowned photographer and former model, joins Paris Chong on The Paris Chong Show for a fascinating conversation. They reminisce about past collaborations, including pop-up events and photo shoots with celebrities like Bella and Gigi Hadid. Lesa shares insights into her creative process, discussing her transition from fashion photography to capturing more natural elements like animals and plants. She also recounts memorable moments from shoots, such as using an underwater camera and a serendipitous pool/pond location, highlighting the unexpected mistakes and happy accidents that often lead to stunning results.

The discussion takes a serious turn as Lesa and Paris address the darker side of the modeling industry. They discuss the experiences of Carrie Otis and the prevalence of abuse and exploitation, particularly in the pre-internet era. Lesa, a member of the Model Alliance, sheds light on the legislative efforts to protect models and support survivors, such as the Child Victims Act and the Fashion Workers Act. They condemn the individuals who have gotten away with harmful behavior and emphasize the need for accountability and change within the industry.

Ultimately, the conversation underscores the complex realities of the fashion and photography world, blending anecdotes of creative collaboration with a frank discussion of its challenges. Lesa's experiences, both in front of and behind the camera, offer a unique perspective on the industry's evolution and the ongoing fight for safety and ethical practices. This episode provides a candid look into Lesa Amoore's career, her artistic journey, and her advocacy for change.

Statement from Lesa Amoore: On the Universal Abolition of Statutes of Limitations for Sexual Abuse.

“In 2021, I stood in Paris alongside my fellow survivors to demand a legal system that reflects the science of trauma, rather than the convenience of a calendar. We spoke out against Gerald Marie not just to seek personal justice, but to expose a systemic architecture of abuse that thrived on silence and the protection of ‘archaic’ time bars.

At that time, our voices were met with the closing of doors because the law chose to prioritize the expiration of time over the weight of the crime. The latest revelations in the Epstein files have now made public what we have known for decades: that elite modeling agencies were never just about fashion, but often functioned as a pipeline for a specific, protected class of people. The documented coordination between agency heads and global power brokers proves that this was an organized system of exploitation.

Today, as the call in France grows louder for the total abolition of statutes of limitations for sexual abuse, our initial demand remains unchanged: Justice has no expiry date. This is not just a French issue; it is a global one. The United States and nations worldwide must follow suit and dismantle these arbitrary time bars. These laws have long served as a shield for predators, allowing them to wait out the clock while their victims processed the profound psychological impact of their crimes.

To truly protect the next generation, all nations must align their laws with the reality of survival. We didn’t travel to Paris to be a footnote in a closed file; we came to demand a future where accountability is absolute, regardless of where the crime occurred or how many years have passed.”

I stand with Epstein’s survivors, and support all survivors deprived of justice.
Justice should not be timed out.

#bellahadid/ LA Archives:
selections of the mesmerizing #BellaHadid / #TheSwanSittings
Photographed by #LesaAmoore.

Hitting the decade mark, this series was captured over a period of a year- aligning with the maturation of the cygnets into Swans. Shot at onset of Bella’s career, the imagery was featured in Marie Claire, Elle, and other publications. As a photographer, it was an absolute pleasure to work with her.

Bella Hadid, a fashion model, businesswoman and humanitarian, is the American daughter of a Nakba survivor. I stand with Bella and her family who- based on their race and family origin- are being subjected to public slander and bullying by the extremist govt of an apartheid state. I hope you enjoy this flashback, and pls. donate to Pal refugees where you can! #healgaza #ceasefirenow🇵🇸

Happy New Year Friends!

The #AdultSurvivorsAct gives adult victims of sexual assault in New York a window until November, 2023 to file a civil case against a perpetrator (or institution that protected them) outside the statute of limitations.

Thanks to the @modelallianceny, @nysenate and the many activists and survivors that worked to give victims that opportunity.

30 years ago. Elle Japan. The Japanese were ahead of the curve in fashion. They didn’t have to resort to pressuring young models to get naked to “sell” clothes like European and US markets were resorting to. They actually had a forward fashion culture compared to the western world.

The “sex sells” mantra by Elite Model Management brought with it a lot of creepy photographers and agents who were abusing their positions. (Most crimes went unreported considering the circumstances of the era.) The boss of Elite NY was a self described pedo, and the boss of Elite Paris was a predator and alleged serial rapist. Elite was based on “sex sells”. And there was dark money in the fashion industry at the time. What came with that mix was an era of exploitation, abuse, control, and trafficking. None of it was possible without the big editors and designers who looked the other way… or, perhaps more accurately, were complicit.

Bottom line- for whatever reasons power players had-the result was many models being raped, abused, exploited; appearing in imagery they didn’t feel comfortable with; and human trafficking. Certainly not an era to romanticize power players in (save for the few brilliant craftsman, and forward Japan).

I’ve learned a lot in the past 3 decades, having made plenty of mistakes along the way myself. I had to shed a lot of conditioning. Its taken 3 decades to fully understand the true and damaging effect the industry I was in (and had been a cover girl for) had on myself, and on society.
Today, it is even worse for society. I’m conscious of that. Hoping more of you lovely people will be, too!

Hello Friends! I hope you are safe and okay in these distressing times.
🖤
Our portrait sitting with the amazing @ambrabgutierrez.

So… Let’s Talk About Ambra!

It’s rare when working talent is willing to risk certain high profile opportunities to advocate for basic labor rights in the workplace, especially so, in an industry that favors exploitation. I know it’s rare, because so many top models won’t even risk it. Even more rare is that Ambra, whose energy is light and refreshing, felt it her duty to corroborate with the police when faced against (now formerly) one of the most powerful predators in the entertainment industry- and she agreed to wear a wire. In any industry, that takes a lot of guts.

And while that strong and principled activist is how I came to know and advocate with Ambra at Model Alliance, it’s just a part of who Ambra is. Italian x Filipino, her unique beauty radiates from get go. A sort of mesmerizing and poetic combo of openness, humor, wisdom, integrity, quirk, calm, and drive. Ambra is in the category of who I want on my set first, as highlighting people of integrity and ethics are important to me.
