Sparrow Turns 5: AGM & Party

Wear your best black and white outfits.

Tuesday, October 27, 2026
6:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m.
Sparrow Artspace
36 4 Street Northeast Calgary, AB, T2E 3R7 Canada (map)
Free. Please register.

Five years of Sparrow Artspace, three years of Sparrow Arts Society, and hundreds of artists creating and collaborating through residencies, exhibitions, and workshops. We think that deserves a party.

Come back to the nest for one night. We’ll run a short AGM, celebrate the artists who’ve made Sparrow what it is, and then hand things over to the food, the drinks, and creating.

We want to celebrate our Alumni and we will announce one lucky Sparrow alum who will go home with the $1,000 Sparrow Alumni Prize!

And you’ll leave with art. Everyone makes an artist trading card at the event, then trades it. Your work goes home with someone. Someone’s work goes home with you.

Alumni, this is your reunion - come reconnect with other artists! Creatives, volunteers, supporters, neighbours, and the curious: you’re all invited too.

Sparrow Arts Society Annual General Meeting Agenda starting at 6 p.m.:

Shout out mix master @milo_state for snapping these pics of the PreDutchian Afterparty at @cold_garden
Some say they’re the only surviving record of the evening.
Big up @sparrow.artfilms not only for executive producing the film, but procuring the finest bannocks and Dutch cheeses on turtle island.
Shout out to everyone in the last photo! Everyone was involved in the making of the film… except my freeloading mom… but like… I guess she made me. So she made the movie by extension. Ok toodles

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the @pokaiks Truth and Reconciliation Event yesterday. I am excited to announce I will be working with them and @sparrow.artspace in their upcoming Indigenous Arts Residency this winter along with five other amazing artists.

The theme is 'Telling Our Stories'. Truth and Reconciliation day is a day to reflect on the stories of our past, the injustices that happened to our families and ancestors, and build a better future moving forward, knowing that despite the efforts to suppress and destroy us, our voices, our culture, our beliefs, and our stories, we are still here. We carry on and will forever sing loudly and proudly who we are.

It was such a fun day spending time with my Papa Bear Jimmy Bear & Jim Wych with his beautiful gf Deb.

Thank you for a beautiful brunch Jim Wych.

We enjoyed our time with you so much. Daddy hasn’t stopped talking about you. 🥰

I love hearing you both chat about the good old days and all the Snooker players you spent time with and played with.

And Papa Bear I’m gonna miss you like crazy when you leave tomorrow. It has been a fun summer having you here and showing you some of the Jimmy The Bear Doc. There’s more to do though, but I’m glad you enjoyed what you saw. 🎥

Dearest Dolly Parton will always be loved and celebrated as one of music’s all-time greats.

For over 70 years, Dolly a country superstar has achieved so much: she’s released 50 studio albums across various genres, snagged 11 Grammys along with three Emmys, penned 25 No. 1 hits, graced our screens in classic films, not only that, Dolly used her wealth to help others and even created her own theme park and movies with songs she wrote. A true legend.

I will truly miss her.

Love and condolences to her family and loved ones. Hiy Hiy.
