I went to Israel alone and came home with a completely different understanding of connection, belonging and what makes a meaningful life. 🇮🇱❤️

As the founder of Hacker Communications and a business leader, I talk a lot about the power of connection. This summer reminded me that it matters just as much outside of business.

Courage creates connection.
Connection creates belonging.
Belonging creates a meaningful life.

2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣ What a surprisingly difficult exercise 🤯 ➡️ Too many moments, too many people, and so much growth to fit into one post. Each photo represents a chapter that defined my year.

🎤My 1st Open Mic
Growth accelerates under pressure, especially with the right encouragers like @blairfromblairland and @siandflanagan

🪞Seeing Myself Clearly
Accentuate my natural for the long term, tnx to @cl.audia3745

🧠Music Is Medicine
Led PR for the @alanparsonsmusic benefit concert, in cont’d support for Dr. Petrecca, the brain surgeon who gave my mum 5 more years. Joining forces with @leisamontreal and @peakfingroup we reached 55M+ people and raised $500K+ for brain cancer research at @theneuro_mni

💞The People Who Made the Year
New friendships, deeper bonds, and celebrated my sister @sidney.hacker’s graduation in NYC. Growth is personal, but never isolated.

🎸Creative Expression & Release
A weekly jam night, led to epic jam sessions with @johnorpheus @howdoesinstantkarmasleep @adinmauer @kayla420luv @sela4real. Jams became a way to reliably move energy, process emotion, and be present.

🌍Doing Big Things Alone & Leaving Comfort Zones
Sharing my story publicly, building resilience under pressure, and going to @ultra alone. Courage is a muscle built through practice.

🏕️Surviving Discomfort (& Learning From It)
First camping music festival @basscoastfest and kayaking to an island to camp. A real test of endurance, left me more grounded and in tune

📓Owning My Story to Teach and Help
From my 1st webinar for immigrants to my 1st podcast and speaking to 70+ Jewish business owners, I learned that sharing what I’ve learned, from what I’ve lived, is what truly resonates. 📸 @maaorrozen

🎄Leadership & Impact
Planning @cprs.vancouver’s largest professional development event, stepping into the VP role, and seeing @hacker_communications’ projects thrive, incl. @shipyardschristmasmarket becoming the largest in Canada.

✡️Creating Community
Hosted my 1st Seder & Sukkot party, healing workshops, many Shabbat dinners, & another beach party with Roni M. Creating spaces for connection felt essential this year.

A little taste of Israel is coming to your Friday night. 🇮🇱✨

Good food. Familiar songs. New faces. A Shabbat table that feels a little like Israel and a lot like community.

Mark your calendar for October 30! We're bringing young adults together for Shabbat with a Taste of Israel, hosted by Leslie Hacker @leslie__hacker and the Flora team @floracommunity_ .

Think Israeli-inspired food, favourite Jewish and Israeli songs, and a welcoming table where familiar faces become friends and new connections happen naturally.

It's everything we love about Friday nights, with a little extra Israeli flavour.

🐶🥰How lucky am I to have this little angel comedienne in my life. Many don’t know this but @eevie.the.havapoo was born exactly 1 month after my mum died on March 15, 2020. This 10-pound bundle-of-love helped me get through one of the darkest times in my life… fresh after watching my mum die a slow and painful death and then covid hitting like a black hole of loneliness. I held her, and cried myself to sleep night after night after night.
When I moved to Vancouver, she’s the reason I met so many of my closest friends. Every single day this tiny girl is on a mission to make literally everyone around her smile- whether it’s walking her at 8am in the rain, or late at night in the darkness, she is constantly attracting everyone around her to her silly sweet spirit. I feel so lucky to have this special girl by my side all this time.

Whether you’re trying to land a job in PR or build your own client roster, this one’s for you.

Hacker Communications founder Leslie Hacker shares one of the biggest lessons from a decade of running a PR and social media agency working across Vancouver, Toronto, and Canada: trust the cringe factor.

Leslie breaks down why that gut instinct is worth listening to, and how pausing before saying yes has changed the way she chooses who she works with.

Follow for more PR and marketing tips.

A quote stuck with me from services this morning-

“If you see what needs to be repaired and how to repair it, then you have found a piece of the world that G-d has left for you to complete.
If you only see what is wrong and how ugly it is, then it is you yourself that needs repair.”
- Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson

January NYE is a big party and the Jewish new year is also joyous but there’s also a stillness in the air and an invitation to slow down, look inward and make space for what comes next.

As we enter year 5787, I am unapologetically proud to be Jewish and proud to belong to a people who have survived, rebuilt, adapted and carried our traditions forward for thousands of years.

The Jewish calendar is lunisolar, and I love that our New Year arrives as the seasons begin to change. The trees change colour and eventually shed their leaves. In our way, we are asked to do the same: reflect on what we’re carrying from the year behind us, decide what we need to leave behind and create room for renewal.

So my wish for this year and for anyone reading this, is to have an open heart. Listen more. Stay curious about people. Look at what needs repairing and ask what part you can play in repairing it.

A successful event can bring people together. The right marketing strategy can make its impact travel far beyond the room. 🎶

That’s what we set out to do with Music is Medicine.

Hacker Communications led the event marketing strategy across public relations, social media marketing, digital advertising and bilingual communications to amplify a 1,500-seat benefit concert ft. @alanparsonsmusic at @placedesarts in Montréal and, more importantly, the bigger purpose behind it: raising awareness and funds for brain cancer research at @theneuro_mni

Our PR campaign secured television interviews on @GlobalNews and @CTV, alongside radio, podcast and digital coverage across @cbc @cjad800 @chom977 @energie989 @terryandtedpodcast @thesuburbannews and @themontrealer_online, among others.

The result: a sold-out concert, more than $600,000 raised for brain cancer research, four new clinical trials funded and more than 55 million people reached.

This is what experiential marketing means to us: using PR, social media, digital advertising, digital PR and storytelling to amplify an experience, build community around it and give its message a much bigger platform.
From music and cultural events to hospitality, retreats and wellness experiences, we love helping meaningful in-person experiences reach further.

A very special thank you to the team at @peakfingroup, whose vision brought Music is Medicine to life, and to everyone who helped tell and amplify this story.

Looking back at the photos from a recent talk, beyond realizing just how much I talk with my hands 😂, what stuck with me most was what happened after I stepped off the stage…

This was the first time I had spoken so publicly about my past, loss, rebuilding, meaning and purpose. And something unexpected happened.

It wasn’t what I said that stayed with me most. It was what people shared with me afterward- A young man who had lost his best friend came up to talk to me about grief. A woman told me the talk made her feel reconnected to her birthplace. Someone asked me to speak to college students. Others came looking for business and career advice.

I remember thinking: How could people listen to the same 30-minute presentation and walk away with such completely different things?

Maybe our stories meet people wherever they happen to be in their own lives.

Last year, I gave a keynote to business owners about marketing, social media and what to expect in 2026. As the founder of my marketing and PR firm, Hacker Communications, talking about business comes naturally to me.

But this time was different… I opened up how leaving my comfort zone wasn’t so uncomfortable, tragically losing both of my parents in my 20s, rebuilding my life, finding connection in unexpected places, and why some of life’s most difficult and unexpected moments can ultimately shape us the most.

For years, I’ve helped businesses find their stories and figure out how to share them. I didn’t expect that opening up and sharing more of my own story would connect with people in this way.

Thank you @community_kollel @danayanko20 @gili.roth.bar @colton.routtenberg @shmulikyeshayahu @rikioire @coastalnutritiondietitians for inviting me.

And a special photo + moral support credit to my sister @sidney.hacker and @danafrmartin and for documenting just how expressive my hands apparently are. 😂❤️ taken in Vancouver, British Columbia by @leslie__hacker
