Homowo Festival – Visit Ghana.
The Teshie Ga Homowo celebration, meaning “hooting at hunger,” is a harvest festival by the Ga people of Ghana to commemorate the end of a devastating famine and to celebrate a bountiful harvest and community prosperity. Activities include a period of ban on noise-making to show respect to ancestors, the preparation and communal sharing of the traditional dish kpokpoi, and public rituals like the sprinkling of kpokpoi to feed ancestors. The celebration involves vibrant parades, drumming, dancing, and a durbar (a gathering of chiefs and people) at the climax of the festival.Last before the least, men and women ,both the aged and young, take to the streets running and singing songs of celebration to honour the gods of the ancestors and for a successful new year…It is mainly celebrated during the month of August till the first weekend of September. by @leslieniiash
