Not enough people understand or openly talk about disordered eating among teens. It's important to be informed and pay attention. 🧐

Parents, please don't write off some of these behaviors as "just a phase", or "it's not a problem".

👂 Keep open communication with your teens
🍎 Support healthy eating and self-care (not weight or size),
🩺 Encourage making informed choices for their health, not current fashion or the "ideal" body type.

Most of all don't hesitate to take action if needed. 🙏

If you prefer not to do it alone, I invite you and your teen to schedule a discovery call with me at the link in my bio. ❤🌹

Today is National Eating Disorders Screening Day.

What is that?
It’s a day to take action on your worries. The signs you’ve been seeing that your teen or college student’s eating just doesn’t seem right.

Something’s off and you can feel it in your gut. In your heart.

It’s a day to get the answer to:
“Is this really a thing?”
“Is her eating normal teen behavior or should I be worried?”
“Am I overthinking this?”

Stop waiting for a sign, or for it to get more obvious.

You have 3 minutes today. That’s all this takes.

You’ll be glad you did because you’ll have answers.

Here’s why it’s important:

Your friends probably won’t bring it up because it’s not on their radar.

I’m in twelve parent groups with hundreds of thousands of moms, and not one of them is talking about this. Not today. Not this week. Everyone’s talking about care packages, college applications, and Halloween costumes.

But here’s the thing I can’t un-know:
on average, people wait 2.5 to 6 years after symptoms start before getting help.

That’s years of it getting deeper, and recovery getting harder.

Plus, it often starts or get’s worse in the early college years: new stress, wide-open dining halls, friend pressures, loneliness, and no one watching or guiding.

The screening is free, anonymous, and takes about 3 minutes. It’s not a diagnosis — it’s a first step, and it walks you through how to talk to your teen about what you’re seeing.

You can take it about your teen, and anyone 13 and up can take it about their own eating. So take it yourself first, then invite her to.

Link in bio.

And if you’ve been wondering how to talk to her, my newest episode of the Healthy Teen Life podcast may help:

“Is My Eating a Problem?” with Jessica Setnick shares what to watch for, and what to actually change. Listen to this together to open the conversation after you’ve taken the screening. A perfect one-two combo.

If your results worry you, the National Eating Disorder Association also has resources to support you.

Not for you? Send it to the mom you know who’s been quietly wondering.🤍

Campus safety is on all our minds right now. Both moms of college students and moms of seniors about to apply.

Worry is normal, but a plan is what actually makes them safe.

With teens, it takes repeated conversations and lots of reminders. Not because they don’t care.

But because they get excited, they follow the group, and sometimes someone could slip something in their drink.

The problem is we don’t want to come in hot or they’ll tune us out.

And even if we’re sure our daughter knows exactly what to do at 1am when something feels off, it never hurts to remind her… for the 10 millionth time.

Try these texts as a helpful reminder and solutions she can rely on.🩷

Tell me — which one are you adding first? 👇

It’s easy to miss little signs that start showing up.

Life is busy. It seems like a teen phase. It feels hard to pinpoint or address.

All these are real and common responses which can cause moms to hold back and wait.

If your teen’s eating has shifted, skipping meals, new food rules, constant body talk (one or several of these)…

and part of you keeps wondering whether to worry… listen to that part.

That wondering is information that’s important.

Your mom instinct knows.

Here’s what stopped me in my tracks:

👉on average, people wait 2.5 to 6 years after symptoms begin before seeking help.

Usually when symptoms have increased and concerning behaviors have escalated.

Know this: Earlier is easier.

I’m also sharing this with you because high school to sophomore year of college is one of the highest-risk windows for eating struggles to start or escalate.

All moms need to know this.

New stress, social influences, developing bodies, college life changes, bigger emotions all contribute.

Our kids are facing all these challenges daily, often quietly, and sometimes food and body become confused.

It’s no one’s fault.

So I’m partnering with NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association) to share:

National Eating Disorders Screening Day, this Wednesday, October 14.

Their screening is free, anonymous, and takes about three minutes.

It’s not a diagnosis. It’s a first step to identify where your teen is at so you can have clarity and know what to do next.

The free screening walks you through how to talk to your teen about what you’re seeing.

Even if it’s small. It’s better to have those conversations than wait.

The link is in my bio.

And, it’s built for anyone 13 and up to take about their own eating, so share it with your teen too.

If you’ve been wondering, this is your sign.

🎙️P.S. My newest podcast episode “Is My Eating a Problem?” on the Healthy Teen Life talks to teens about eating, mindset, and what to do. Link also in bio.

A mom asked this in a parent group and nearly 300 of us jumped in with answers.

Because so many of us are living it right now.

You can’t cook for them right now. But you can still fuel them. 🧡

Save this for the next time you’re wondering what you can do from 6 hours away. (Or whatever your distance, near or far)

This is about fuel they’ll actually eat.

A fueled brain learns better, sleeps better, and handles stress better. All major factors in college.

Eating for fuel is one of the everyday skills I coach.

👉I cover five more in my free College Readiness Masterclass.

Which one are you trying first, 1️⃣ or 4️⃣ ? 👇

Comment READY and I’ll send you the Masterclass info.

Straight A’s. IB program. Her dream school. The one she worked for since middle school.

And now she’s calling you sad.
Struggling in intro classes.
Friendships that feel shallow.
No energy for anything.
She even said she doesn’t want to go back next semester.

Here’s what I want you to hear mom: nothing went wrong.

She wasn’t underprepared, she was prepared for the wrong thing.

She was prepared to get IN. Nobody prepared her for being THERE.

The IB program promised it would “prepare you for college.” And academically, maybe it did.

But nobody taught her:
How to make friends from scratch.
How to walk into office hours and ask for help. How to manage her energy when the structure of high school disappears.
How to fail for the first time at 18 and not make it mean something about who she is.

Freshman year is a whole year of transition and most students don’t hit their stride until sophomore year. Some don’t make it until then.

The sadness isn’t a sign she chose wrong. It’s a sign she’s in the part nobody warned her about.

If any of this is clicking with you…

Your tiny action: tonight, tell her the resources exist AND give her the script to use them.

“The tutoring center, office hours, the student success center — they’re not for kids who are failing. They’re for kids who are learning.”

Then ask: “Which ONE will you try this week?”

She doesn’t need you to fix it from home.

She needs the skills to navigate it there.

Tell me — did anyone warn YOU about this part? 👇

Comment READY and I’ll send you the link to Thursday’s free College Readiness Masterclass.

I share the four phases of Freshman year and the six pillars that actually carry them through with less struggle and more confidence.

Your student isn’t lazy. Just caught in a loop:

No sleep → sugar cravings → junk food → energy crash → missed class → stress → worse sleep. 🔁

What most moms miss before their kids start college:

You can’t fix this with a bedtime routine lecture.

Sleep is a SKILL — and it’s one of the first ones to go in college.

Loud dorms, disruptive roommates, all night cram sessions.

3 tiny resets, you can prep them with, that actually work:

① Same wake time every day (yes, weekends. this matters as much as bedtime)

② Phone charges outside the bedroom - firm rule (break the late night scrolling & texting habit)

③ 20 - 30-minute wind-down: shower, stretch, book. No screens

Small, doable, no overhaul required.

Reinforce, repeat repeat repeat.

That’s how habits will stick at 17.

I teach The Dip (sleep, stress, emotions, eating, asking for help…all of it), inside my free College Readiness Masterclass for moms

Every other Thursday.

Hear this, mama: the Dip is normal.

But "normal" and "fine on her own" aren't the same thing.

October is when moms start to see the difference and it's the perfect time to act, not panic.

I walk through exactly what to watch for (and what to do) in my free College Readiness Masterclass.

I host it every other Thursday.

This approach flips that concept and accelerates results by investing more time upfront, and getting quicker results.

The result is less time on the back-end and more quality time moving forward.

They’re actually life skills.

Very specific ones that are the baseline support for their daily life.

Supportive habits that make living on their own more stable, and academic demands easier to handle.

Yet they’re the most overlooked and undervalued by most freshmen.

🛏️ Consistent sleep schedule (even weekends)

🍳At least a balanced breakfast per day (ideally all 3)

👭 Social connections that feel safe and real

The students I’ve worked with who find their footing fastest, and get the most out of college life, aren’t the ones with the best daily planners or who find friends first.

They’re the ones with the steadiest habits.

When these are in place, your student can focus on what they’re at college for.

These three are where I’d start every time.

Have you noticed this in their first few weeks?

And how it’s affecting everything else in their campus life.

Which one is hardest for your kid right now? Drop it below 👇

First semester anxiety sneaking up and making it hard not to swoop in and ‘mom’ them 🙃

If you’ve had any of these moments recently, you’re not alone, and you’re smart for noticing and taking a breath (sometimes a big, deep one!).

These can be totally normal transition and independence pains, or they can grow into something more.

It’s called The Dip…for a reason.

Which is exactly what I’ll be talking about (and what comes next) in my upcoming masterclass for moms.

Comment “READY” and I’ll send you the details.
