I’m in one of the most private seasons of my life. And I’ve had to learn — slowly, tenderly — that my life belongs to me before it belongs to anyone else. I’m choosing to keep many things close. Not out of secrecy, but out of sacredness.Access is not love. Entitlement is not intimacy. Aquí les comparto unas fotitos de mi viaje a RD este verano pasado. Me consume el orgullo de ser dominicana. Es algo inexplicable. Siempre lo he sido y siempre lo voy a ser orgullosamente dominicana.Amo nuestras expresiones, nuestra forma de ser, nuestro sazón, nuestro orgullo, nuestra cultura, nuestra música. Soy descendiente de la tierra donde nacieron la bachata, el merengue, el palo, típico y el dembow. Vengo de un país donde no estás enojado — tienes un pique. Donde el envidioso es demagogo. Donde el lenguaje tiene ritmo y doble sentidoSer dominicana es una experiencia única.Y al mismo tiempo, celebrar hoy me mueve muchas cosas por dentro. Nuestra independencia se conmemora en el marco de la separación de Haití, y eso me invita a preguntarme: ¿qué narrativas hemos heredado desde la antinegritud? ¿Qué cosas necesitamos revisar con más conciencia?Ser orgullosamente dominicana no significa ser antihaitiana. No significa negar nuestras raíces negras ni olvidar que compartimos una isla, una historia entrelazada y una herencia africana que vive en nuestra sangre, en nuestro tambor y en nuestra piel. Como decimos: la mayoría traemos el negro detrás de la oreja.Puedo amar profundamente mi país y también querer que sea más justo, más consciente y más solidario. 100% dominicana. I turned 30 and realized slowing down isn’t losing time, it’s finally meeting myself inside of it. This reflection is about my relationship to time, stillness, and faith, and how “Lento” by Julieta Venegas reminded me to move gently, to trust that what is meant for me does not rush me. Thirty revolutions around the sun, and I’m learning that urgency is not wisdom, speed is not purpose, and stillness can be five minutes of remembering who I am.There’s a guided meditation waiting for you in this post.
