Thank you Thankyou Thankyou to everyone who came to the gallery opening!! I’m so beyond grateful to have had this experience and to have my family and friends apart of it! This whole process has been a whirlwind of joy and stress and difficulties but I’m unbelievably excited with how it has turned out.

If you haven’t seen the Capstone exhibition yet, go check it out! It will be on view until December 4th!! @uga_doddgalleries

It Lies In Wait - Capstone exhibition animation
Intaglio, watercolor, oil pastel

“I create creatures, puppets, surreal environments and video as a way of exploring what it feels like to exist slightly out of place. My work lives in the space between connection and alienation, where intimacy doesn’t always follow the rules we’re taught. Through stop-motion animation, printmaking, and sculpture, I give form to that tension, the fear of being misread, the desire to be known, and the quiet ache of offering love in a language others don’t always speak. My work is filled with monsters and strange hybrid beings that represent both the self and the other: the inner fears I carry and the outer pressures that distort how I’m seen. These figures can be metaphors for rejection, misinterpretation, and the experience of offering a kind of love or connection that isn’t easily understood. By making these beings visible, I try to give form to what it’s like to exist outside of normative ideas of desire, identity, and intimacy.

Much of my inspiration comes from the Southern landscape I grew up in, wild, beautiful, unknowable. I love the South deeply, even as I’ve often feared it wouldn’t love me back. That contradiction runs through much of what I make. I’m interested in how someone can belong to a place that might not fully accept them, and how love, whether for a person, a community, or a landscape, can still thrive in that contradiction. My creatures are shaped by those quiet fears and transformations. They don’t always make sense, and they’re not meant to. They’re emotional stand-ins, metaphors, little bodies carrying big feelings. Through them, I build worlds where discomfort and care, fear and love can exist together, where being different isn’t something to survive, but something to celebrate.”

After many months and long long hours in the studio moving tiny bits of paper a few millimeters at a time, she is complete!! This whole process has been a rollercoaster but I’m so happy with how it’s turned out and how these guys have been brought to life! More hopefully to come!

Passenger In My Own Body

Video Art Appropriation project
The feeling of not being in control, of the unknown happening around you yet you are confined by your being. You own this body of yours, yet are but a passenger, watching... experiencing life through the lens of something else.
