The Tufted Titmouse, tiny, but loud! These guys can be heard from very far away, especially when they sing in the spring and summer! This one flew up on a branch close to me, probably to check me out. I was deep within the woods where I'm guessing not a lot of humans go. Sometimes you're just in the right place at the right time. I was walking around looking for birds when I felt an ominous presence nearby, it was eerily quiet, the birds I could see were as still as statues, and I looked up to see this handsome young guy staring down at me. He was very unbothered by my presence, in fact, he seemed curious about why a human was out in the woods. He gave me a few more fleeting looks and flew off to observe a nearby lake! I had a very surprise visit from Ernesta the Eastern Screech Owl the other day. The night before there was a raging thunderstorm all night, which likely prevented her from hunting. Ernesta has to eat sometime! So she stayed awake and was out doing some hunting when I was walking a path through the woods and saw her perched in this tree. She scared me a little I'll be honest, I did not expect her to be awake, let alone staring at me like this. I mean, how cute is she?! by @lets.gobirding

🚨🚨 LIFER ALERT 🚨🚨I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE MY LIFER VIRGINIA RAIL! As most field guides say, this bird is very reclusive! This particular one is a juvenile, it was trailing close behind another one, unfortunately I was unable to see if the other was the adult or another juvenile, but either way, I was happy to see this little guy! #birds #birdwatching #bigyear #canon #photography by @lets.gobirding

Common Grackles are one of the coolest birds around, I always wonder what it does to a birds self esteem to put the word Common in their name. Ironically, ive never seen a species name contain the word Uncommon 🤣#birdwatching #birdphotography #birds #canon #wildlife by @lets.gobirding

The Eye of the Crane. The Sandhill Crane has an incredibly sharp yellow eye, great for finding small invertebrates and other critters lurking on the ground. These cranes, as do all other birds, have what's called a nicitating membrane, which serves as a secondary eyelid. They can close and open this to help wipe way any dust or debris from their eyes. Very cool to see the veins of the membrane so close up! #birds #birdwatching #canon #wildlife #birdphotography by @lets.gobirding

The many poses of a Barn Swallow! These guys have always been one of my favorites to photograph, but for the first few weeks they are here, it seems as if they never land. After three days of rain, the sun came out and with it, so did the birds and other creatures of the forest. I was feeling a little glum from all the rain, I needed to get out side with my camera a bit. I went to my normal spot, but this time I went a different way than usual. Much to my surprise was this female Wood Duck! She stayed at this spot for a while and then moved on, and so did I. Five minutes later, I found her again, preening and cleaning herself off. I was so happy to see her. I like to think that perhaps the feeling was mutual! #birdwatching #birdphotography #canon #photography by @lets.gobirding
