One patient needs reassurance.

The medicine matters—but so does meeting people where they are.

One of my favorite parts of being a physician is that every room brings a new story, a new personality, and a new opportunity to make someone’s day just a little better.

And honestly… I wouldn’t trade it for anything. 👣❤️

**********I HAVE ANNOUNCEMENT!*********
I will be on the upcoming season of the Emmy-nominated, reality tv show SURVIVOR! @survivorcbs
I remember watching this show for the first time on May 31, 2000 and being enamored with the fact that complete strangers were left stranded on a desolate island where they must provide food, fire and shelter for themselves for 39 days. Not only that, but also compete against each other with the ultimate goal to outwit, outplay and outlast for $1 million!
The show was an immediate hit in my household and became a sacred time for my family where we could catch up and be together as one unit. I still remember my two brothers and I would try and recreate the challenges and outlast one another after the show. Growing up, I had dreams of being a castaway and seeing my face in the classic SURVIVOR introduction with the epic “Ancient voices” soundtrack. However, I never thought this could be a reality as I was living with a chronic, life-threatening health condition that required constant attention. This dream, unfortunately, dimmed, as I grew older. I went to college, graduated from medical school, underwent multiple, major medical procedures and became a board-certified podiatric surgeon. Once the pandemic hit, I began watching the Survivor seasons I missed and once again the dream became bright and the overwhelming feeling of excitement for the game ONCE AGAIN emerged.
I decided to apply one night with a simple 3 minute video on my cell phone after I saw Jeff on a commercial simply saying, “Just do it. Apply now!” I started recording and verbalizing my love for the game and describing why I would be a great castaway and the ultimate Survivor. And guess what, THEY CHOSE ME AS A CASTAWAY! I’m excited for ALL my friends, family, colleagues and future fans to watch this season of amazing people and see why I love this show so much.

This Juneteenth, I’m celebrating a different kind of freedom too: the emancipation of student loan debt.

Becoming a doctor came with a dream…and a price tag.
College was expensive.
Medical training was expensive.
The years of sacrifice were expensive.
The missed moments, long nights, delayed gratification, and pressure to keep going even when the numbers felt crushing — all of it was expensive.

Today, I’m proud to say those loans are finally PAID👏🏾 IN👏🏾FULL👏🏾

And while I would never compare financial freedom to the weight and history of Juneteenth, I do believe this day invites us to reflect on liberation in all its forms — and on what it means for Black people to keep pushing toward freedom, opportunity, and ownership in systems that were never built with us in mind.

As a Black queer physician, I know how much representation matters. Only a small percentage of physicians in this country identify as Black and queer (<4%).That reality is why I keep showing up — for the kid who needs to see what’s possible, for the patients who deserve culturally competent care, and for the community that poured into me long before I had these letters behind my name.

To anybody staring down monthly payments, feeling buried by debt, exhausted by the grind, and wondering if the finish line will ever come:
Keep making the payment.
Keep betting on yourself.
Keep building anyway.
Keep grinding even when it feels unfair.

And to my people: keep supporting Black professionals, Black businesses, Black students, Black joy, and Black futures. We are still each other’s bridge. We always have been.

Today I celebrate freedom, sacrifice, community, and the fact that something that once felt impossible is finally done.

Legacy up. Happy Juneteenth. ✊🏾❤️🖤💚

Today I was surprised by my amazing high school principal Marsha Miller. Your impact didn’t end when we walked across that stage — it carried into adulthood, careers, families, and the people we’ve become.

Some people are teachers. Some are administrators. And then there are the rare ones who truly change lives.

Thank you for being the kind of principal who is always present — at events, celebrations, hard moments, and everything in between. Thank you for constantly supporting, motivating, encouraging, and believing in your students long after graduation day.

Even now, you continue to show up for the Princeton Class of 2006 in ways that surprise and remind us of how lucky we are to have you in our corner.
