Dekh raha hai na Binod? 👀
Business chal raha hai… par legal side ka kya?

A lot of small businesses focus on:
Sales, Revenue, Instagram followers and New clients

…but quietly ignore:

⚠️ No written agreements with clients
⚠️ Employees working without proper appointment letters
⚠️ Brand name used without a trademark check
⚠️ Business payments coming into personal accounts
⚠️ No proper compliance calendar
⚠️ Important statutory notices being ignored

And the biggest misconception?

“Abhi toh business chhota hai, baad mein dekh lenge.”

That “baad mein” can become expensive.

Your business doesn’t need to be huge to need proper legal & compliance systems.

It needs them before a problem arises.

Follow my page @letsprotectsmallbusiness for business legal insight and save this as your small-business legal checklist.
And send it to that friend who says, “Yaar, abhi toh business naya hai.” 😅 by @letsprotectsmallbusiness

Before you launch your brand, read this.

You found the perfect name.
You loved the logo.
You’ve already started thinking about packaging.

But there’s one question you need to answer BEFORE spending money on your brand:

👉 Can you actually use that name?

A brand name isn’t legally safe just because:
❌ the Instagram handle is available
❌ the domain name is available
❌ you can’t find the exact name on Google
❌ someone else is using it but hasn’t complained yet

Your brand deserves more than a good-looking logo.
It deserves legal protection from day one.

That’s why I’ve created BEFORE YOU LAUNCH — EP. 01 with 7 essential checks to make before launching your brand.

Tell me honestly — how many of these 7 have you already checked?

Small business owners, can we be honest for a minute?

There are some things I would NEVER do as a business owner. Not because I love paperwork but because I know how expensive these “small mistakes” can become later.

❌ Agreement ki kya zarurat hai? We trust each other.
❌ Appointment letter baad mein de denge.
❌ This brand name is available on Instagram, so we can use it.
❌ Notice aaya hai… dekh lenge.
❌ Payment personal account mein hi le lete hain.
❌ WhatsApp chat hai na, that’s enough proof.

And then one day… a dispute, legal notice, employee issue, trademark objection or compliance problem arrives!

The truth is:
Most business problems don’t start as big problems. They start as small things that were ignored.

As a Company Secretary & Small Business Consultant, one thing I strongly believe is:

Build your business like you plan to make it big—even when it is still small.

Because good documentation, compliance and systems are not just for big companies. They are what help small businesses become big businesses.

Now tell me honestly… which one are YOU guilty of? 😅

FSSAI’s new standardized VEGAN logo — a dedicated symbol to help consumers instantly identify certified vegan food products across India.

If food packets already carry the Green Vegetarian Symbol, why did FSSAI feel the need to introduce a separate Vegan Logo?

Because vegetarian and vegan are not the same.

A product can be vegetarian and still contain milk, ghee, butter, honey, whey protein, or other animal-derived ingredients. A vegan product, however, must be completely free from animal-derived ingredients, additives, and processing aids.

Recognizing this distinction, FSSAI has mandated a standardized Vegan Logo for approved vegan food products from 1 July 2027.

This is more than just a new symbol on packaging.

✅ Greater transparency for consumers
✅ Clear differentiation between vegetarian and vegan products
✅ Stronger credibility for genuine vegan brands
✅ Reduced misleading claims in the marketplace

As consumer awareness grows, accurate food labeling is no longer just a compliance requirement—it is a powerful trust-building tool.

Food businesses dealing in vegan products should start reviewing their product formulations, claims, and packaging well before the compliance deadline.

A small logo. A significant step towards informed consumer choice.

Fixed salary vs. Equity: Finding the right equilibrium in executive compensation is harder than it looks.

Getting managerial remuneration right is a delicate balancing act. Go too low on fixed pay, and you lose top talent. Go too high, and stakeholders question the value.

That’s exactly why ESOPs (Employee Stock Ownership Plans) have become such a critical instrument for executive compensation.

As companies increasingly leverage Employee Stock Purchase Options (ESOPs) to attract and retain top-tier leadership, understanding their classification as “managerial remuneration” under the Companies Act, 2013 is critical for compliance.

Many organizations fail to realize that ESOPs given to Key Managerial Personnel (KMPs) aren’t just “equity perks”—they are strictly regulated components of executive pay.

Selling Ayurvedic-looking products? Don’t assume AYUSH License is mandatory for everything!

A common myth among food businesses is:“If my product contains herbs or traditional ingredients, I need an AYUSH/Ayurvedic License.”

Let’s simplify:

✅ If you are selling a FOOD PRODUCT and you are NOT claiming medicinal, therapeutic, curative, or health benefits — then in many cases an FSSAI license may be sufficient.

Examples:Herbal tea sold as a beverage, Makhana mix with natural ingredients, Regular health snacks without medical claims and Traditional food products

But if you claim:“Boosts immunity”“Treats diabetes”“Improves digestion”“Cures joint pain”

…you may fall under AYUSH/Ayurvedic regulations and additional approvals could become necessary.

The key is not just the ingredients. The REAL question is: What are you CLAIMING?

Before launching your product, understand whether you are selling a FOOD product or positioning it as a MEDICINAL/AYURVEDIC product.

Wrong classification can invite notices, penalties, and compliance issues later.

🚨 BIG FSSAI UPDATE | Effective from 01.04.2026 🚨

The Government & FSSAI have introduced major reforms in food licensing compliance to promote Ease of Doing Business for small food operators across India. 🍴🇮🇳

Here are the KEY CHANGES every food business must know 👇

✅ 1. Lifetime / Perpetual Validity of FSSAI License
No more renewal every 1–5 years.
FSSAI Registration & Licenses will remain valid unless suspended, cancelled, or surrendered — subject to compliance and inspections.

✅ 2. Revised License Structure

📌 Basic Registration → Turnover up to ₹1.5 Crore
📌 State License → ₹1.5 Crore to ₹50 Crore
📌 Central License → Above ₹50 Crore

This means lakhs of small food businesses can now operate under simpler registration requirements.

✅ 3. Relief for Street Food Vendors
Street vendors registered under Municipal Authorities / Street Vendors Act will be treated as deemed registered under FSSAI.

✅ 4.Risk-Based Inspection System Introduced
Inspections will now depend upon:
✔️ Nature of business
✔️ Compliance history
✔️ Risk category

This aims to reduce unnecessary inspections for compliant businesses.

✅ 5.Simplification for Small Food Businesses
Big relief for:
🍛 Restaurants
☁️ Cloud Kitchens
🏠 Home Bakers
🚚 Food Trucks
🧁 Instagram Food Sellers
🥘 Street Food Vendors

⚖️ Legal Basis:
📖 Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006
📖 FSSAI Licensing & Registration Regulations, 2011
📖 Amendment Notifications issued in March 2026

⚠️ Important:
Even after simplification, operating without proper registration/license may still attract penalties under Section 63 of the FSS Act.
