This sport has been my life since I’m a kid. There were times that I walked away from it but it never lasted long. It has brought me to my knees in tears and it has given me some of the happiest moments of my life all with a sense of pride that can’t compare. It has injured me and It even had a big part in me having a heart attack. I have seen some of my girls get injured and even carried some to their x-ray’s but they never give up and nothing can compare to when they push through and succeed on what they’ve tried so hard to accomplish. After my heart attack I really considered giving up but like I always tell my gymnasts u can’t quit gymnastics. U can quit playing any sport but gymnastics isn’t a game. It’s our definition. It’s who we are. We are gymnasts. Mind body and soul. Now being forced into taking this break I know more then ever that I will never walk away from this sport and the girls who make it what it is. We will all get through this and come back even stronger.
To all my past and present gymnasts,
You are some of the best, toughest, strongest, and most incredible girls I have ever known. I love you more then you will ever know. As a coach I’ve always lived by the decision to risk myself to save u and whether you’re a part of my team now or have been in the past that bond will never break and there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for any one of u. This is Giuliana reminding us that September is Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Month💚 She’s the toughest little warrior I’ve ever met, having dealt with more at just 12 years old than most people 5x her age have. Please help her and others struggling with this rare disease by spreading awareness and hopefully someday they’ll find a cure 💚🙏
