Definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Entered the pain cave the last 5 miles of the race but toughed it out to hit my goal of a sub 4 hour marathon!🏃🏽🏅

This annual reunion has been the start of something special. It started a few years ago as an excuse to get together and relive our college days because we weren’t ready to grow up after a few of us moved. Now it’s turned a weekend of golf, fantasy football, 10 mile runs and great times with friends that feel more like family. If you told any of us 4 years ago that we would be running at 5 am, we would say you were crazy. Excited to continue this tradition and watch the families grow with all the littles on the way. St. Geezy will always be home🧡🏜️ by @levijgarcia

I didn’t get the opportunity to experience growing into manhood with my grandfathers. Both of mine passed away when I was very young. But along the way, I was lucky enough to gain two.

Grandpa Skeen is still here, and I’m lucky enough to call him friend. He’s a cowboy, a concrete master, stubborn as hell, and about as old-school as they come. He knows a thing or two about hard work, providing for your family, good manners, and doing what needs to be done whether you feel like it or not.

He loved one crazy lady for a lifetime and has spent the later half of his life committed to becoming a better man for her. If past lives existed, I’m pretty sure he and I shared a beer or two over a pool table in one of them.

Then there was Grandpa Janisse, who we lost this week at 101.

He was a completely different kind of man. Free-spirited, quick-witted, always moving, and capable of making a friend just about anywhere. He always had a hobbies, somewhere to go, or something he still wanted to do. I have to believe that had something to do with why he stuck around so long.

He also loved one woman for a lifetime and remained hers long after she was gone.

Running has taught me plenty about endurance, but these men have given me a much better picture of it.

There’s something masculine about staying the course. Showing up for your family. Working hard. Keeping your word. Loving one woman well. Having things that keep you curious and alive. Being strong enough to grow and humble enough to know you still need to. Doing it for decades when nobody is handing you a medal for it.

These two men couldn’t be more different but both have shown me pieces of the kind of man I want to be.

At the end of the day, I don’t think a man’s life is measured by how tough he looked, how much he accomplished, or even how many years he got. It’s who he served, who he loved, what he stood for, and whether he finished faithfully. by @levijgarcia

Enjoying my lunch on the front porch when I get a notification that a year ago today we were in the inspection process on this little farm.

The funny part? We weren’t even looking at this property. We were on our way to see another house when a weathered handwritten “For Sale By Owner” sign caught our attention. One phone call and the rest is history!

This last year has been full of hard work, learning pride in ownership, and a never ending to do list. It’s been family showing up, friends lending a hand, and slowly building a life we love.

Somewhere along the way this became home. The kind of place that makes you want to linger over your coffee, sit on the porch a little longer, and stay put for awhile. More than anything, the Spirit of the Lord is here. His goodness is woven into every corner of this place. One year later, I’m just grateful. If you’re ever in town, kick off your boots and stay awhile!
