Legacies of Apartheid is the focus of this year’s LSP faculty-led study abroad program, providing a multi-disciplinary course at the @stellenboschuni University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. In the first two weeks of the program, scholars toured the Lwandle Migrant Museum and the Leah and Desmond Tutu Foundation, visited Table Mountain and Robben Island in Cape Town and tried to spy migrating whales from the cliffs of Hermanus! by @levinescholars

Drawn to @careringnc's mission: empowering individuals with limited resources to establish and maintain good health, nursing major Hannah Holness '29 spent the summer broadening access to community support during her nonprofit internship.

Hannah performed health checks at the mobile clinic, assisted with the food pantry and organizing events. When asked what lessons she will take with her from her internship site, she said: "I am leaving with a greater understanding of the scope of services that contribute to healthcare and wellbeing." by @levinescholars

Working with @@univcityclt this summer has given Myles Davis ’29 the chance to gain practical skills related to his chosen field of study: finance. By conducting profit and loss analyses for events, developing proposed budgets and preparing presentations, Myles will return to his second year at UNC Charlotte well-equipped for his coursework and ready to continue making a difference in his local community. by @levinescholars

“These students know where they're coming from, which I think is really powerful. Growing up, I wasn't always sure where I came from or where I was going. At ourBRIDGE, we allow them to celebrate their culture and celebrate becoming a part of Charlotte.”

Joselyn Moreno ’29 didn’t take a summer internship at ourBRIDGE for KIDS, she was called to it. As a second year Levine Scholar majoring in public health, communications studies and Latin American studies, Joselyn grew up in Olin, North Carolina and both of her parents are from Mexico. Although her background was different to that of her classmates, she recalled having a strong support system and a will to go to college. Being family oriented, UNC Charlotte stood out to her for its proximity to home, but it was the Levine Scholarship that cemented Joselyn’s decision to become a Niner. Scholars begin their journey in the mountains with the National Outdoor Leadership School, but recent grads Eli Elk and Christian Fuselier decided to celebrate the culmination of their hard work with a full-circle trip to the mountains of Colorado before stepping into their professional roles. Eli will be starting an NC Fellowship through the UNC School of Government, while Christian will begin a full-time role with Truist. by @levinescholars

The Forney Creek Restoration Project is over five years in the making, but this summer, scholar Atticus Kenney ’29 is contributing as an intern with @catawbalands. Atticus is responsible for inspecting build sites, monitoring properties to prevent damage and creating a volumetric environmental benefits calculator to quantify the benefits of restoration programs. Once the project is completed, the area will experience an improvement in water quality and fewer instances of flooding as a result of added buffers and native plants. by @levinescholars

@thebulbmobilemarkets held one of its summer markets today in Camp North End, offering free produce and flowers to members of the local community. For Thalia Dominguez Martinez ’29, this one was particularly special as it is the last day of her nonprofit internship (the second summer experience for all Levine Scholars). She was also joined by former intern and volunteer Michelle Song ’28.

"As I wrap up my internship at the Bulb, I’m leaving with a much deeper appreciation for the work that goes into keeping a community-focused organization running. Over the past five weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to reorganize the sorting space and contribute to daily operations. My favorite part has been talking to and getting to know everyone the Bulb helps in the community. It’s bittersweet to be finishing my time here, but I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned and the people who made it such a rewarding experience." by @levinescholars

Canvas for Our Climate, a civic engagement project in partnership with @cleanairenc and @cltclimatechange, invites local high school students to explore the intersection of art and environmental science. The project culminates in an annual event bringing together community members for a powerful evening celebrating creativity, collaboration and climate action. by @levinescholars

Over the weekend, LSP hosted a regional alumni event in Chicago, Illinois! The group explored the Lincoln Park Zoo and enjoyed building new connections on a beautiful sunny day. A prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Grant award awaits graduate Annabelle Hill ’26! The Levine Scholar will serve as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Malta for the 2026-27 academic year, representing @unccharlotte and the United States through teaching, cultural exchange and community engagement. Annabelle also plans to conduct individual research and volunteer with migrants, building on the experiences she began as an undergraduate student at Charlotte. by @levinescholars
