50 years ago, Ahmad Jamal performed at the @jazz_showcase in Chicago. We finally have the chance to hear those performances.

Resonance Records will release a double album on April 18 for Record Store Day. The album features Jamal accompanied by John Heard and Frank Gant. It includes covers such as “Theme from Mash” and original compositions like “Ahmad’s Song.” The 8-page booklet is beautiful.

C’est aujourd’hui qu’on imprime la partie couleur de l’édition vinyle de mon album « À une distance de l’étincelle ».

We’re thrilled to kick off another series of RSD Black Friday announcements with a never-before-heard release by the Chicago-born saxophone icon Clifford Jordan with a stellar quartet featuring bebop pioneers — pianist Al Haig (Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis), bassist Wilbur Ware, and drummer Kenny Clarke — captured live at Joe Segal’s Jazz Showcase in Chicago, IL, September 30-October 1, 1976.

The limited-edition 180-gram 2-LP (and CD) set was mastered from the original tapes by George Klabin with lacquers cut by Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios in Hollywood, CA, and pressed at Quebec’s boutique audiophile pressing plant Le Vinylist. This is part of Resonance’s ongoing series of releases from Joe Segal’s Jazz Showcase archives following acclaimed releases by Joe Henderson, Ahmad Jamal, Mal Waldron and Yusef Lateef in April of 2026. The deluxe package includes newly curated liner notes by veteran jazz journalist Ted Panken, who was at the show and interviewed Clifford Jordan and Wilbur Ware at the time. Few composers have shaped the sound of cinema as profoundly as John Williams.

From Star Wars and Indiana Jones to E.T., Schindler’s List and Harry Potter, his music has defined generations of filmgoers and continues to inspire audiences around the world.
Performed live by the Orchestre FILMharmonique under the direction of Francis Choinière, this recording was produced by ATMA Classique and recorded by 2xHD. It embraces a philosophy of capturing the natural sound of an orchestra rather than constructing it artificially. Recorded in concert, the performance preserves the energy, spontaneity, and emotion of a live symphonic experience.

The orchestra was recorded by René Laflamme using a matched pair of vintage 1951 Neumann M50 vacuum tube microphones, powered by dedicated battery supplies and arranged in a classic A-B stereo configuration. To provide greater flexibility during mastering while preserving the integrity of the original recording, a second coincident pair of ½-inch laboratory measurement microphones was positioned at exactly the same location. This unique approach made it possible to refine the tonal balance without compromising the coherence, depth, and spatial realism of the original stereo image.
The recording was captured in DXD, preserving the orchestra’s exceptional dynamic range-from the quietest passages to its most powerful crescendos.
By avoiding the use of dozens of close microphones, the production remains faithful to the philosophy of minimalist recording, allowing the natural acoustics of the hall, the balance of the orchestra, and the artistry of the performers to define the final sound. @levinylist #2xhd #vinyl #fidelio #atmaclassique #maisonsymphonique by @levinylist
