Officially done with 6/12 clinical blocks 😳 my NAVLE (the national veterinary licensing exam) is scheduled for October (which is wayy too close for comfort!) and we are less than a year away from being a doctor!

•Lots of birds!
•Turned 31! I was on call but got to spend most of the day with my favorite person before getting called in!
•Lots of barn cats (the cats kept me sane while in large animal land)
•Survived theriogenology (reproduction) and 6 weeks of food animal medicine and surgery (very glad for the experiences and education but happy to be done 😂)
•Survived multiple weeks of large animal field service and herd work in the summer heat (most days were about 90 degrees with 70-80% humidity)
•Had some amazing large animal patients (most notably a hospitalized Hereford cow calf pair that were perfect)
•Lots of small ruminant cuddles
•Castrated a bull (something that was on my bucket list)
•Got to experience a couple horse dystocias and pull a foal
•Learned a lot on my dentistry and oncology rotations
•and so much more! Now onto equine medicine and surgery for 7 weeks, and then I am back to small animal land for the rest of clinics! by @lewisashlyn

She has a white coat 👩🏼‍⚕️ and is over 50% DVM!
Just under 2 years left of vet school and it will all be spent on the clinic floor (my happy place!). I cannot wait to be back in a hospital full time again and start applying everything I have learned. My mom got to coat me up on stage which was a very amazing full circle moment—I don’t think we have been on stage together since I was a little ballerina and we performed in the same ballet together!

Thank you to my family and friends who helped me get here and supported me through millions of vet school exam induced breakdowns. Sadly my grandpa couldn’t be there but he did get to watch a bit of the stream and my mom and I got a little keepsake in honor of him, to add to our matching tattoo collection🫶.

Clinics have started and I will be in Florida at operation catnip doing spay/neuter/wellness and critical care for cats and kittens (my dream come true) and then I will be on my cardio and internal medicine rotations when I get back!

Thank you for everyone for the birthday wishes! After a rough finals week I was surprised by Dylan with a party at my favorite winery here and got to celebrate surrounded by some of my favorite people. I couldn’t be happier to enter this decade and I’m more than happy to be saying goodbye to my 20’s! by @lewisashlyn

IP9 Favorite Moments:

•Dental Surgery Lab (extracting the canines and maxillary 4th premolar and 1st molar on a young dog with perfectly healthy teeth was a true test of my sanity but I managed to do it without leaving any roots in!..also this is why vets drink 😂)
•Meeting LEMURS
•taking Izzy to the retirement home and watching her put smiles on everyone’s faces 🥹
•hand ties for intro surgery lab!
•Ferret Physical Exam!
•my 💕
•Fennec Fox cuddles
•Kid Watch!
•Izzy with her young boyfriend Marshall on a playdate
•Baby K being a model
•As a Dechra Student Rep I got to take 7 students to the Gentle Doctor Benefit!

She is ✨50% DVM✨
IP 9 is over and now we are VM3’s!
VM3 didactics start tomorrow with an 8 week block. After that we have July off and then our LAST 8 week block of didactics 👏🏼
White coat will be in October and I’m straight to clinics after that!

The time in didactics has both flown by and has taken way too long at the same time 😂 I will say, second year has been 700000% times better than first.

Instruction period 10 out of 11 begins Monday! Here is the schedule:
•Equine Med and Surgery
•Farm Animal Med and Surgery
•Orthopedic Surgery
•Small Animal Medicine (cardio, neuro, derm, etc.)
•Didactic Surgery Lab! (We will be doing everything from spay and neuter to gastropexy, cystotomy, tracheostomy, limb amputations, and more!) taken in Mizzou College of Veterinary Medicine by @lewisashlyn

And just like that IP8 is ✅

I completed radiology, pharmacology 2, clinical pathology, a business course, and lab animal medicine. During this IP I also continued working treatment and secondary on call shifts in Raptor rehab, picking up ER shifts whenever possible, and serving on the boards of FelineVMA and SCVECCS.

Some of my favorite moments:
•Preg checks on goats that we placed CIDRs in at the end of 2024 (watch the video for the cutest little heart beating!)
•Ultrasounding a snake!
•Lab-animal handling lab
•Learning how to interpret bloodwork in clinical pathology!
•Planning my schedule for clinics
•Dylan teaching me how to make a picture frame from scratch in his woodshop.
•Going ice skating for the first time since I was much younger

Next up is IP9:
We have small animal soft tissue surgery lecture and lab, toxicology, anesthesiology lecture and lab, and companion animal medicine lecture and lab.

Just 3 more IP’s to go and then clinics!
IP10 starts in May and that is officially when we are considered VM3’s. We have a month break after IP10 and then IP11 ends in October and then we are off to white coat ceremony and clinics. by @lewisashlyn
