I’m stepping into the judge’s seat June 8th to see who has the resilience to turn a raw business blueprint into an investable reality.The training wheels are officially off.In today’s climate, younger individuals are facing a brutal job market that demands a rare level of competitiveness, creativity, and sheer resilience. We aren’t here to reinvent the wheel, but we are required to bring an aggressive level of ingenuity to the table to provide actual, investable value. I’ve learned this reality firsthand navigating the terrain as a student, a professional, and a business owner running Goddess Protect Studio. That is why ecosystems like Philadelphia Youth Basketball (PYB) are critical. PYB gives young people the infrastructure to exercise their entrepreneurial muscles, providing a high-stakes arena where they can fall, make mistakes, and pivot without completely breaking.This spring, I am returning to the Alan Horwitz “Sixth Man” Center as one of the judges for the PYB Entrepreneurship Competition. You’re moving into a space where the stakes are higher, and any set backs or challenges you’ve endured becomes the armor that makes you outwork everyone else.There's a strategic advantage to being unseen while you're building. With zero noise, you don't have "yes men" feeding you a false sense of security. Every win you have is 100% earned by your own hand.You have the element of surprise. Some people won’t understand how it "suddenly" worked out because they weren't paying attention to the bricks you were laying at night.Don’t forget why you started, lean into your purity of intent. Being hard on yourself can slow growth more than lack of skill. These drawings were only two finished sketches of a long journey of early self discipline and discovery a few years ago, during a period when I was deeply immersed in anime and equally immersed in self-critique.At the time, I was working digitally on a surface with almost no friction. My arm would slide across the screen, so I’d tense my wrist, elbow, and shoulder just to keep the pen steady. I’d draw for hours like that. Some days, I finished pieces with strained wrists and sore joints, convinced I was still “behind.”What’s wild is looking back now and realizing how much progress was actually happening underneath the frustration.I was improving. I just couldn’t feel it because I was measuring myself against an imagined finish line instead of the work in front of me.This piece is a reminder I keep close now:progress doesn’t always feel good while it’s happening.and discipline without joy can blur growth instead of sharpening it.If you’re in a season where effort feels heavy and results feel quiet, this is your sign to pace yourself. Skill compounds.
