Some of the best places I’ve captured. Florida water, Utah rock, Iceland ice, Nevada desert, New York steel, and California from Big Sur up through the Bay and into Yosemite. Big open space, big color, and mostly no one else around. You actually have to stand in these to get it.

One of my favorite things to do while living in the Bay Area was hunting down different viewpoints to photograph the Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge is famous for a reason, but the obvious shot stops being interesting fast. What kept it fun was finding the angles most people walk past.

Here are 8 of my favorite spots to shoot it:
1- Golden Gate Bridge Overlook: the classic postcard view from the south side, framed by Monterey cypress trees.
2- Crissy Field East Beach: a flat, open beach on the city side, perfect for catching the bridge silhouetted against an orange sunset sky.
3- Baker Beach: the wide, sandy classic. Easy access and unbeatable at sunset when the whole beach lights up gold.
4- Fort Point: directly beneath the south tower, where the bridge stops being a landmark and becomes architecture.
5- Battery Spencer: the closest you can get to the north tower without being on the bridge. Famous for the love locks on the fence.
6- Kirby Cove: a hidden cove in the Marin Headlands. Dark volcanic sand against the red bridge is a contrast you don’t expect.
7- Palace of Fine Arts (aerial): the dome and lagoon in the foreground, the bridge stretching across the bay behind it. A drone shot you can’t get from the ground.
8- Hawk Hill: the highest accessible viewpoint in the Marin Headlands. The entire bridge, bay, and skyline in one frame.

Each slide has exact coordinates. Save it for your next trip to San Francisco.

The art of composition in my photography.

Composition is what separates a good photo from one that holds you for a second longer. Here are seven compositions that I have used in my photography:

Leading Lines: following the natural shapes of a road, a coastline, or a fence to guide the eye exactly where you want it to land.

Color Contrast: pairing complementary tones to create tension, draw attention

Framing: using trees, doorways, or branches in the foreground to add depth and pull the viewer into the scene.

Rule of Thirds: placing the subject slightly off-center so the frame feels balanced and alive.

Symmetry: mirroring both sides of the frame to give the shot a sense of calm, order, and intent.

Foreground / Midground / Background: stacking layers of depth so the eye moves through the photo instead of stopping at the surface.

Centered composition: placing the subject dead center with room around it to breathe. Quiet on the surface, strong underneath.

These aren’t rules to follow. They’re tools to reach for. The more you use them, the better you get at knowing when to leave them behind.

Sorted a few years of photos by color instead of location.

Blue is mostly skies and structures. Green is landscapes, trees, and everything that grows. Orange is golden hour and coastline. Black and white is when the shape matters more than the colors, or when whatever holds up without color.
Which set are you?

Skógafoss from two perspectives. First from the ground with my iPhone, then from above with the drone. No matter how many times I watch this waterfall, it still feels unreal. Iceland never disappoints.

The first shot in this set has been one of my favorites this year.

The most challenging part of wildlife photography for me has been getting the composition I have in mind. You have no control over the subject, so the only thing you can really do is wait and hope the animal eventually moves into the position you envisioned. photographed the close-up shot around 11:30 AM (third slide). But the wider composition, with one bird isolated in the foreground and the rest forming a soft background, didn’t happen until around 6 PM, when one finally moved into the position I had envisioned.

Wildlife photography often comes down to patience and being ready when the scene you imagined finally comes together.

Everyone sees the polished version. Almost nobody sees where it started. So here’s both.

Shot this whole set on my iPhone with the Telesin Master Optics lens. First, you get way more reach than the iPhone’s telephoto while keeping the quality clean. And second, the bokeh is better and more natural than the phone’s portrait mode.

Been running the Telesin Master Grip + lens all week and I had to test it with the full moon. The grip makes the phone feel like a point-and-shoot, and the lens gets you 200mm of real reach.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from it, but the result is quite impressive.

Still pretty new to wildlife, but it’s quickly becoming something I can’t get enough of.
Spending time with the Tamron 150-500mm honestly played a big part in that, making it easier to capture these moments without overthinking it.
