Like...when I met Zad, he didn't have this many gray hairs...Zad: (chuckles)Lexi: But now, like, I'm looking at him and I was like, "Oh my gosh, you look like a father." (laughs) And soon, like, you're gonna be, like, very salt and pepper. I can't wait to grow old with you, like-Zad: (chuckles) I'm excited for it. I'm like, "Bring it on." I don't even hide my white hairs anymore. I'm like, "Let's just rock with it." Lexi: It hits very differently as not just, like, to take it to, like, the reality of, like, trans people, but I'm turning thirty-five next year...and the, like, life expectancy for Black trans women is...thirty-five. And I- I- I'd never before, like, having the safety of our relationship and having the safety of the communities that we've built our lives around, thought about myself living to be forty...forty-five...fifty...and so yeah, I think about it every day. Back from Cuba and here are some of my humble reflections. So much more to come—including interviews with members of @redafrocubanatrans, as soon as I have time to edit them.Every time I have the privilege (and means) to come to Cuba, I leave transformed, with a renewed clarity. There’s so much to do in our local communities, but we can’t lose sight of the importance of international solidarity with our trans siblings across the African diaspora. The realities they live—ones that many of us can’t even fathom—are a direct result of the political and economic violence that sustains a system of racial capitalism that enriches lives here within the imperial core, from oligarchs to segments of the working class alike. The invisibilizing and displacement of this violence are necessary to keep the system propped up. Only by keeping it out of the public eye can billionaires amass wealth with endless avarice and maintain their control. International dialogue and transnational solidarity are key to unmasking (and hopefully undoing) that system.Our destinies are tied, and none of us are free until all of us are. Free Cuba. Nearly six months into the Trump administration’s intensified oil blockade, life in Cuba is becoming increasingly unlivable.Fuel imports have ground to a halt and without fuel, there is no public infrastructure. Buses that are the lifeblood of the city have disappeared from the roads. Hospital generators are running on fumes. Basic services to sustain life are no longer available. Across Havana, trash is piling up in the streets, causing disease and illness to spread like wildfire.Havana residents are under unprecedented pressure. Even when there have been grid, collapses in the past caused by hurricanes, residence could expect to have power for a few hours a day to cook food, bathe, wash their clothes, and charge their devices. Now, power outages that last more than 24 hours at a time are the norm. No electricity means no running water, no cooking, no refrigeration, and no relief from the heat.To make matters worse, as the crisis in Cuba leaves mainstream news cycle, the mutual aid that communities rely on is drying up with it—just as conditions continue to reach a new level of desperation.We’re still raising funds to send food and power stations directly to our comrades on the island. Get to know one of our fearless leaders, Nomi Ramirez! Nomi is a black trans, Cuban woman and longtime organizer in Havana who helped co-found @redafrocubanatrans. So many people on and off the island have been a recipient of her support whether it be financial, nutritional, or emotional. Around the world it is the start of pride month, a recognition that was born out of the labor of trans women of color who historically and to this day have led the charge for queer and trans liberation. It’s important that we continue to honor the Black trans women who keep our communities fed, housed, and heard, recognized them for their contributions, and not just give them their flowers but make sure that they are taken care of. This clip is the first of four based on conversations with Nomi in April where she shares her reflections on being trans and Cuban and her dreams for the global trans community. We’ll be sharing more soon!We are still accepting donations to contribute to our food sovereignty fund, to send groceries to 20 Black trans community members and their families on the island. Ely Malik, a member of @redafrocubanatrans, talks about the difficulties of accessing HRT as a transgender person in Cuba. This video was recorded in April 2026; since then, very little oil and aid has entered Cuba, making access to medicine even more challenging. He explains that trans Cubans resort to the black market or international aid. However, trans care is rarely a priority of humanitarian aid and black market medication can be difficult to find and very expensive.“(For those of us who have jobs), it’s two months salary to buy hormones,” he explains, “and you still won’t have enough HRT for the year.”Today, in countries like the US and the UK, HRT is bioidentical, meaning that it is chemically the same as the hormones our bodies produce. Oftentimes, black market HRT is synthetic, meaning it is created in a lab. These chemical differences can mean that synthetic hormones may act differently in our bodies and can result in side effects that impact our transition timelines. “We feel the difference when HRT is brought to us from our international comrades— we feel better,” a member of RACT said. by @lexicalentry

SHARE THIS POST!Our Cuban siblings are living through a crisis, a genocide of US imperial design that is reshaping daily life in ways that are difficult to quantify and impossible to overstate. Earlier this month Cuban officials reported that the island has officially run out of fuel. No fuel means longer and more frequent blackouts. Prolonged blackouts mean food spoils, water stops running, and people are forced to make impossible choices about how to survive and care for their loved ones. How do we put into words the physical and mental toll of generations of political persecution, economic violence, and collective punishment?For Black trans people, who are already navigating layered forms of marginalization, the impact is even sharper.In April during one of our mutual aid delegations we spoke to one of the members of @redafrocubanatrans about the reality under fuel shortages caused by Trump’s intensifying military blockade. This is what survival sounded like over a month ago, and since then conditions have only escalated. If you’re able, please continue to support directly. I know there’s a lot of trans boys that feel like they have to perform a certain way, or a certain layer of masculinity, to be able to be in relationship. I say: try not to perform and see how it goes. I lowered my guards with Lexi. It really felt like I was discovering different parts of myself as I was…getting to know you. And, yeah. So, that’s how I felt about falling in love with you.Lexi: I was just like, “Oh.
