Chance, as a poet that can write endless words, today I have none.

I truly don’t know where to begin, what to say, or how to feel. All I do know is that I am ashamed of not hearing your cries for help.

I am so sorry that I was too worried about what I had going on to check in on you and remind you how important you truly were.

I owe you a thousand thank-yous, and even more words than I can possibly say.

For all the times you talked to me late at night while I was whining about something so little,

For the times you took me to pick up random things from Facebook Marketplace because I couldn’t fit them in my car, and I made you really regret buying a truck,

To the little moments when you’d see I was lonely and invite me to breakfast.

Or pretend you hated the boys I brought home because that’s what a brother’s supposed to do.

And that’s what you were. You were my brother. Not just a friend, not just an extra person intertwined in my world.

My brother.

I will love you for all the days to come. I am so sorry I couldn’t make that clear when it mattered most.

But writing this now, I want you to know there was never a day that you didn’t matter on this earth, that the space you took up wasn’t perfectly filled, or that your breath was ever wasted.

Everyone, stop what you’re doing and take the time to tell the people around you that they matter, that the space they take up was perfectly designed for them to fill, and that no matter what they think, your life would be imperfect without them in it.

Chance…

You may have been my friend by chance,
But you will always be my brother by choice.

I hope you’re forever filled with the love of Jesus. Until we meet again.

From sneaking you in through my window to inviting you to stay, I can proudly say you are the best stray I’ve ever had the pleasure of giving a home to. Whoever hit you will get their karma. Rest easy Thomas O’Malley the Ally Cat. 💐 🪦 🐈 by @lexidaniel727
