Phew…having cancer at 24 years old was definitely not on my 2025 bingo card. Last year was the worst and best experience of my life. I would never want to go through having cancer again, but there’s no denying how beautifully it changed the way I think about life and what’s important moving forward. It’s interesting how something so traumatic can break you yet grow you at the same time.

There were so many days spent sick at home, on that surgery table, or in that chemo chair, where I was wishing that wasn’t my life. And now looking back on it? I wouldn’t be the person I am today without it all.

It’s wild to look back on all the good that filled 2025 alongside my cancer journey: Went on a surf trip in Costa Rica, three trips home to Hawaii, swam in the ocean for the first time after not being able to for a year, found out I was officially cancer free, camped in Catalina with my besties, danced through five music festivals, somehow was able to snowboard right after 4.5 months of chemotherapy, went off the grid in Big Sur with my mom, learned how to e-foil, and learned how to shape a surfboard from scratch.

Here’s to the year that brought me back to life and for giving me a second chance. Excited to ride what’s ahead. by @lexiklimpl

10 strangers. 1 mini bus. 0 plans.

I flew to Nicaragua planning to stay for a while. But life had other plans for me. A cyclone rolled in at the same time as 15+ foot swell and high tides, and the little surf town I was staying in flooded. I woke up to knee-deep water in my room, our hostel roof collapsed, and everyone’s stuff floating around. It was chaos.

As I was leaving town, I met a few other travelers who were trying to get out too. We squeezed into a taxi and headed inland for the night. We picked up some stragglers along the way and soon our group turned into 10 strangers all trying to figure out what to do next.

Over a few bottles of wine and dinner, we decided our next adventure would be road tripping through Costa Rica. We rented a minibus with no itinerary, no reservations, and no real plan - just a shared goal to chase endless waves, surf every chance we got, and explore whatever towns we stumbled across.

Spontaneous adventures, new friends, and a reminder that the best plans are sometimes no plans at all. What started as a disaster ended up becoming one of the best adventures I’ve ever had - all because 10 strangers decided to say yes to the unknown.

costa rica always provides🌈

When I was walking into the water for this surf sesh, I told @cocodrilo.surf that I’ve always wanted to surf with a rainbow and always wanted a photo with one. It hadn’t rained in costa rica in months and it didn’t even rain this day. So the chances of a rainbow appearing was pretty much impossible.

Yet somehow, out of nowhere, the most perfect rainbow appeared shortly after we paddled out. No rain, no storm… just sun, ocean, and suddenly a rainbow stretching across the sky. It didn’t even make sense.

One of those moments you just can’t explain. I couldn’t help but feel like it was a little sign from my dad in heaven… one of those quiet, unexpected reminders that he’s still with me everywhere I go🤍🫂🪽 by @lexiklimpl
