Grief has become a familiar friend to me after all these years. Some days feel heavier than other days. Everyday I’m reminded by my friendship with Maya just how much she wanted everyone to live life the fullest. I know she’s proud of me for sharing my art with the world :)

I’ve learned to witness my feelings and feel them, deeply and wholeheartedly. Maya’s heavenly 28th birthday is next month, November 17th. And her 5 year heaven anniversary is January 16, 2027.

I miss Maya everyday. And I know so many others do too. She was truly a one of kind soul who wanted the best for everyone and also wasn’t afraid to defend herself or her loved ones in a fight. She was soooo full of life and had sooooo many dreams. We often spent our times together talking about all that we want to accomplish in life. And eating & singing out loud 😆💗

I made this playlist after Maya’s passing. I like to listen to it whenever, though especially when I want her energy close to me.

Made this collage when not too soon after @magicalmaya17 passed away. I was deep in grief. I remember sitting on the floor of my bedroom as I painted and put this collage together. Maya was always supporting me in anything I did, and cheered me on when I let out my fun side.

I miss her everyday. I miss listening to music together and eating food, and yapping about life and our dreams.

I know she’s still with all her loved ones in spirit. But man, I wish I could her again just for her to tell me “ew” and we both laugh 😆💗 by @lexxtastic

Pilares de un paso sin jaulas // Pillars of an uncaged stride

I speak out because I owe it to younger me.
I know it’s a risk to speak out and it’s a risk I’m willing to take.

I don’t continue my life just to stay silent, that’s not in my character. I will always bet on myself, and those who are meant to be in my life will support me.

For women around the world —

for those whose voices go unheard,

for those silenced for speaking, and for those who came before me,

those beside me,

and those yet to come.

These pillars were not made to hold another’s gaze,

They’re thick roots that have become one with the ground.

Every day I remember the pain I endured,

And it’s an honor to continue the legacy of the women who’ve come before me,

To be an example for those who come after me.

Son mi regalo y mi maldición,

They let me walk through life gracefully and confidently.

Pleasure is my birthright.

I decide exactly how, when, and at what pace I experience bliss and ecstasy.

So I am patient. I trust my pace.

I take my time sharing myself with someone truly deserving.

I understand that small-minded people have their judgments about me.

Let them.

like desperate, sad souls begging for a sliver of my attention.

They want my affection?

Let them starve.

They are deeply unhealed, choosing to let the patriarchy think for them.
